Would have gotten more for him walking away next year because the compensatory pick would have been a 3 or a 4

Everyone always says that we have a loaded team and we would rather move up in the draft than have lower draft picks that won't make the roster. What exactly will a 5th round pick get us in next year's draft? Would have rathered him play this year and let him walk for nothing than take a 5th round pick for him.

Can’t bank on that. Saints are expected to lose a comp pick for 2023 because they signed Andy Dalton in FA. Saints suck at getting comp picks because they’re aggressive in the offseason, plus that pick wouldn’t be until 2024

FYI, I think they got the raw end of the deal and should have held firm for at least a 3rd

Chauncey was a good run defender and I think that might hurt us in the first part of the season. Just getting a few games under the belt and what not.

Coverage wise there may not be a drop off.

If anything, the coverage might improve at times.

But to be good like we have on defense the last few years, you still have to stop the run and force the longer 3rd down conversion attempts.

I know I took a shot at his coverage skills in the big thread earlier today, but you know, he'll be missed.

And it just may be in the early games of the season when we play division opponents. I'm not saying ATL, TB, or CAR will gash us all game with huge runs or anything but it's about keeping teams out of 3rd-and-manageable.

you can bet your arse our division opponents will try and find out who wants to tackle in Chauncey's normal area of the field.

in certain situations.

Those late round picks frequently don't even make the team and never even contribute as a back up.

Doesn't happen often but there are bradys and colstons out there

CJGJ was the 4th best safety on the roster and the 4th best CB on the roster

It’s going to be ok loosey

Okay.

Again, I'm not saying there is some huge problem here, but he had his moments stopping run just like he did in coverage. I zeroed in the on the coverage that Bucs game earlier because that could have easily been the reason, we lost that game, but it wasn't.

No TO's by the Saints. The Bucs had multiple mistakes.

He had a different style (throwback) that honestly still doesn't hurt to have even though the game has changed so much over the years.

I hate seeing him go but I get it.

Haven’t seen a melt like this in some time. SFP leading the way.

I am sad though. Love Ceedy.

Hope a story line comes out that explains this.

No doubt. He was our little ball of hate.

But the defense is still going to be first class.

ETA. CJ might be exposed if he’s going to be a starting safety for the Eagles. It’s not his role.

When I saw him talking shite, I could only imagine the delivery or the way he phrased it, but he could unlock that door.

Sometimes I imagine it wasn't always about his shite talking but also his coverage skills combined.

Most anyone can talk shite.

I'll bet he was salty about being a 4th round pick as well.

I agree and I hope it's a failure towards the Eagles.

not so much Chauncey.

He had some juice, but I think that the Badger will bring more disciplined juice this year. Whatever that means.
