The Saints haven’t yet officially hired Kellen Moore as their new head coach, but once that happens, the team has strong interest in Brandon Staley as their defensive coordinator, Mike Silver of TheAthletic.com reports. The Saints will have to comply with the Rooney Rule before hiring Staley. Moore was Staley’s offensive coordinator in Los Angeles in 2023. Staley had the No. 1 defense with the Rams in 2020, which he parlayed into the Chargers’ head coaching job in 2021. In three seasons, Staley went 24-24 with no playoff wins. He spent last season as assistant head coach of the 49ers. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Saints also have interest in Bucs outside linebackers coach George Edwards for the position

How is it that, while everyone else is rolling back DEI BS, the NFL is doubling down?!

Did you not watch the halftime show? Not one whitey to be seen. I think goodell should resign and give his job to a black guy

I’m very mixed on this. He’s a smart guy but…I don’t know. We will see.

I've made it known I'm not a fan.

He ran the D for the Chargers and they sucked, especially compared to their talent

*ETA: we also will have to adapt to a 3-4 again

Chargers fans hate him as much as we hate Allen.

And Allen was hired with the quickness by Ben Johnson because he's a good DC. Whatever happened with the Chargers as HC, Staley was a highly respected DC before that.

The guy was a defensive coordinator for one excellent season. But only a single season.

He's coached under Mcvay and shannahan too though, so I like that.

I like his background enough. But he doesn’t have an extensive DC past. He kinda caught lightening in a bottle and rode it to an unsuccessful HC job.

I watched a lot of games with him as HC as the chargers are on a lot in the late window. I was never impressed with the guy as a HC. He always seemed to rip defeat from the jaws of victory and often seemed to make the wrong decisions strategically.

Hopefully he can turn it around as he’s still pretty young.

You cant use his head coaching tenure to decide if he is a good DC or not, or at least i wouldnt do that

We could have Tom Landry and Nick Saban running the team and it wouldn’t matter. The roster is shite. It’s old, overpriced and no depth. We are $6 Trillion over cap and Micky going to do some stupid shite again to put us in a bigger hole.
