Realistic options for pick 29 (with links) **updated with "reaches"

Too many possibilities in the late first round, but a few that may be available and fit the Saints needs and preferred physical profile.

DL: Brian Bresee- has got the size and measurables the Saints like, if not the production he should have had at Clemson. No way the Saints pick Calijah Kancey - too small overall with historically short arms. Mazi Smith is another possibility though more of a classic nose tackle.

Edge: Lucas Van Ness or Myles Murphy or Keion White are the only DE that may be available at 29 and also fit the Saints preferred size profile. Nolan Smith and Will McDonald are too small for the Saints, as is our boy BJ Ojulari.

LB: Drew Sanders - could be Demario Davis heir apparent, but I doubt the Saints go LB this early.

TE: Darnell Washington - If the Saints go TE early, I think they swing for the fences with this giant of a man. Dalton Kincaid is long gone by pick 29, and Michael Mayer was productive as heck at ND but just average athletically. Luke Musgrave is another name to watch as potential surprise pick at 29, he seems to be climbing up draft boards. I suspect the Saints will wait to get TE later, though - this is a deep TE draft.

RB: maaaybe they'd draft Jahmyr Gibbs this early? Seems unlikely they'd spend a 1st rounder on RB unless it is Bijan, and he should be gone by 29. Gibbs would be amazing in our offense, however. Super fast, great pass catcher, a little small but not too small to run some between the tackles. More likely they wait and maybe snag him if still available at 40.

QB: nope, not even if Will Levis slides this far. Just can't see it after the Derek Carr signing, at least not in the 1st round.

WR: Zay Flowers - great slot-type WR with speed. Could take over Michael Thomas role in slant city. Jordan Addison would be another possibility.

OG: O'Cyrus Torrence - could take over for Peat. Wouldn't be a sexy pick but I'd understand it. I don't think any other guards warrent 1st round consideration, and even Torrence might last to pick 40.

OT: just don't see it based on the OT likely to be available at pick 29, not with Penning and Ramczyk on the roster, though you never know with the Saints.

OC: same deal, not in the 1st round with McCoy holding down that spot.

CB: seems unlikely with the guys on our roster, but someone like Deonte Banks or Emmanuel Forbes may slide and be the top guy on the Saints board. Just not a position of need.

Safety: maybe Brian Branch (safety/nickel) if he slides to us, could be a CJGJ replacement.

DL: Adetomiwa Adebawore Played mainly edge in college, but most project to move inside. Insanely athletic. Think Calijah Kancey without the T. rex arms. Another possible is Keanu Benton who most project as a mid-2nd rounder, but fits the Saints DT prototype pretty well, would not be much of a reach.

LB: Jack Campbell would make a lot more sense at pick 40, but he fits the Saints athletic profile for LB even thogh he is BIG at 6'5" 250. In my mind the positional value is not there for a LB pick 29 unless you think he's super special.

TE: I'm coming around on Michael Mayer. He doesn't have the elite athleticism I'd want in a first round TE, but he's probably the most polished "all-around" TE in the draft. He might compliment Juwan Johnson who is primarily a reciever.

WR: Quentin Johnson, especially if the Saints want a taller possession-type receiver. Not crazy fast, but might complement our smaller speedsters Olave and Shaheed as a replacement for MT. There's no telling where the receivers are going in this draft, the only one I'm sure will be gone by 29 is Jackson Smith-Njigba.

OG: Steve Avila - he's been projected to the Saints at 29 in some mocks, but I don't see it. To me this would be a real reach. Even O'cyrus Torrence is a bit of a reach, depending on what you think about the positional value of OG.

OT: I still don't think the Saints should do it, but I've seen Darnell Wright slip to 29 in some mocks and would likely be BPA at that point. If we reach for Anton Harrison or Dawand Jones who should be available, I think it'd tell us they're really disappointed with Penning.
