value wise a wide receiver or defensive end should be first pick then best available with an eye on DT

If DT are rated higher at 29 Mazi Smith DT Bresee DT. (2nd could get Tuipulota DE, BJO DE or Keion White DE)
Branch S and Campbell LB if they slip.

Both are waay undersized for the Saints DE prototype, especially Smith. They'd never draft either in the 1st round. Doesn't mean they won't be great players for some other team.

Yes they are. But we need pass rushers bad. DA knows how to use players. Not ideal in our current system but systems can be adjusted for play makers. Draft playmakers.

And Turner appears to have been a bad pick (though not giving up on him yet). I agree the Saints have their own board, so who knows. My list is players I think are actually worth the 29th pick and fit the Saints typical prototypes. If I started listed the 2nd and 3rd rounders the Saints might reach for at 29, I'd get depressed.

I think this is the year Saints don't make these out of left field picks like, CSP did all the time, with his ego picks. So far they have been very strategic in FA and offseason decisions.

Be sure to compare production too. They’re nowhere near the same. People just want to helmet scout an undersized DT from Pitt and make him out to be Aaron Donald.

Glover was drafted in 1996, totally different regime. Current Saints standards for players have been set by Jeff Ireland, CSP, and Loomis. And anyone who brings up Aaron Donald as a comparison for Calijah Kancey should be permabanned. Donald is the ultimate outlier and should be compared to no one.
The current Saints front office does not draft outliers in early rounds. I guarantee you Kancey is not on their board as a 1st rounder. I think more teams than you think probably don't have him as a 1st rounder either.

Um, no. Trey was 6'4" 266 lbs when drafted, and is probably bigger now. Nolan Smith and Will McDonald both weighed in the 230s.

A better comparison for Kancey would be Ed Oliver, who was picked 9th overall. He's been OK, but not worth a 1st round pick.
