Are there any legit rumors on the terms of the offer Bush signed?

I've heard 2.2 mill but not the amount of years.

If the offer is an average of 2.2 over say 3 years, this is a no-brainer to match, IMO.

That would be right around the vet minimum each year. I don't think that there's any way he would have signed that kind of deal.

I said average of 2.2. Why would you intentionally misrepresent my quote?

If the Saints match I'm going to go to Falcons life and cry so much about the loss of our secret weapon that we stole. Those dumb taints.

$2.2m is more than double the vet minimum of guys with 10+ accrued seasons. He ain't even close to that. $2.2m would be a good pay day for him.

I do have a question about matching though. If I remember right you don't match the actual contract(this keeps teams from front loading to try screwing other teams out of their players), you only have to match the average per year. I'm not even sure you have to match years.

Anyone know for sure?

Edit:
Also, if this is correct it falls in line with my thinking of a team maybe offering just over what the second round tender would have been. And $2.2m is literally just over.

So if we match we would come out about even if we would have just given him the 2nd round tender in the first place.

Looks like this is probably true.

quote:

(b) First Refusal Exercise Notice. If the Prior Club gives the Restricted Free Agent a "First Refusal Exercise Notice" substantially in the form of Appendix C, attached hereto, within five days from the date the Prior Club receives an Offer Sheet, but not later than one day before the Draft (unless the parties agree otherwise), such Restricted Free Agent and the Prior Club shall be deemed to have entered into a binding agreement, which they shall promptly formalize in a Player Contract, containing (i) all the Principal Terms (subject to Subsection (e) below); (ii) those terms of the NFL Player Contract not modified by the Principal Terms; and (iii) such additional terms, not less favorable to the player than those contained in the Offer Sheet as may be agreed upon between the Restricted Free Agent and the Prior Club.

Section 3.b

Cliff's Notes to the legal jargon:
Essentially the original team does not have to match the offer sheet exactly, but only give the player a new contract at least as beneficial as the offer sheet.

ETA: so as long as the money is the same (or better) they can restructure it and spread it different through the term of the contract.

Thanks. Yeah I knew it was something like that but they sure in they hell do make it vague.

I wonder if principal terms mean the base salary and the years, and additional terms mean the bonuses and such. Or maybe principal terms just means total salary, meaning we can make the years different but the total has to match.

Either way, I'm liking the low reported number if it's true. That means we can match and didn't really get screwed much at all($100,000 more than the 2nd round tender, which is peanuts). And if we don't they didn't value him as much as some here are.

No problem.

I would assume that principle terms refer to the total salary and number of years, but that we could structure it differently.

I hope we match. He is excellent depth and a good player. I'm glad that it sounds like we wouldn't lose much more than the 2nd round tender, but I wish we would have just done that in the first place. Not much extra $ to be able to get a compensatory pick back from Atlanta if he leaves.

I hope he stays just to keep the Bush 25 jersey market alive. He has a helluva lot of fans.

Yeah the more I'm reading it, the more I'm getting that the total salary has to match(as does the bonus), but we can do it however we want as long as Bush also agrees.

So if it's $6.6 total over 3 years, we'd still have to pay $6.6 but can change the years longer or shorter(or keep them), and also change the exact numbers each year, as long as the total remains $6.6.
