We better not have screwed this one up by giving him the lowest tender. Falcons would get a legit starting safety and we don't get any compensation. This would be a kick in the nuts. Hopefully we can match.

this is to stupid for words...

Please explain...I have thick skin. You also called me stupid in a sentence that doesn't even make sense

It's kind of hard to compare the two because Bush was playing mostly deep safety and Vaccaro was all over the place.

Better? I could see someone making a case but I disagree. More solid? Yeah I could see that. He was less up and down but Vaccaro had a big effect on a lot of games whereas Bush was playing a role.

Now given equal playing time maybe that could have changed.

Also I came back in here to vent more about the horrible decision not to use the 2nd round tender because I just rechecked the amounts.

For a mere $750,000 more we could have used the 2nd round tender. AAARRARRRGGGHHHHH!

Lolz. KV was asked to do a lot on defense last season and shined.

The dice don't always come up a winner! I'm with you, this was a major screw up. Our starting Safeties are in the Top 10, but you have to have depth. Even more so than depth, having Bush could allow Ryan to come up schemes that would be deadly...especially on definite passing plays.

Hope there are no poison pills and we match whatever the terms the Shitbirds offered.

What did we do instead?

Did we use it on someone else?

Guess this explains the Falcons tweet a couple days ago of "Big things happening. Stay tuned".

Definitely a thumb in the eye by Dimitroff. Either take depth from a rival or force more creative accounting for down the line.

The way he throws his body around, you want depth.

Yeah, but we just hired Ball.

And I guess we'll find someone else if Bush falls through.
But this does suck.

Any advantage they may have by doing this ends this year, the Falcons are in a shite load of trouble next season. There are major contracts that they'll have to deal with all over the teams...not the least of which will be J. Jones.

Keeping him wouldn't be an issue if they want to. There are a number of ways to make room for him.

He's a good player. He's not a ball hawk, but he's good in coverage and a good tackler/hitter.

That helps, but for 1 million more, the #11 safety would be all but essentially locked up as a backup. Ball may pan out, but I don't see how it's a better deal for a million dollar safety net versus a CFL guy.

You're tossing around that bleacher report ranking like gospel.

He is a nice player though.

That's not true at all. While JJ will be a hit, the way the contracts are structured, the Falcons have plenty of room to move. What Dimitroff does with it is a different discussion though.

frick it...rank him what you want. You think Ball is more safe than Bush?

I don't think we've dipped below the $1m mark at any point, so no. I think we've always had the room to do it but decided it was worth the risk to pinch the pennies.

I bitched about it when news first broke and said that this was a real possibility and that I hoped it didn't come back to bite us.

Well.... frick.

Right. The question is how much room and are we willing to go there for a 3rd safety. At best he plays about 50% of the snaps again, but he does have added value because of special teams.

The point was that we risked saving $750,000 vs. maybe paying a whole lot more or losing a good player. I just hated the decision from jump.

No, absolutely not. Ball is most likely really cheap (I haven't seen the numbers), and would most likely be signed for depth whether Bush signed an offer sheet or not.

Come on.

But he is highly underrated.

Yeah, this isn't true at all. The real huge contact is Julio, but next year we can start getting out of some contracts we overpaid on.

We will be in a good situation next offseason.
