Seems like this was the plan all along. The Saints toying with trading for him got them the first opportunity to bring him in and visit with them. Saints were never going to trade for him but they did get a jump on other teams.

Carr is now well aware that the Saints want him after he gets cut. We will see if it worked or if we get outbid by another team.

We’re kinda fricked at the QB position and this is our best option, huh.

That isn't what it actually means. What it actually means is he thinks he can get more money on the open market. Which he will. He's gonna get $45m/yr on open market and we'll toil away with QBs worse than him for the next 30 years

Well that seems overly negative

This has to be sarcasm right?

Yes, what it means is he wants to test the open market. Which I would also if I were him. What it doesn't mean is the Saints are out of it yet. They got their first visit with him. The let him know right away they are interested.

Saints have made it apparent the last two off seasons they are kicking the tires on available QB's. We fans worry about salary cap etc, but Underhill had an interesting tweet the other day. The front office is not scared of the salary cap like this board is. If they find the guy they think can win now, with the existing roster, they view the cap as an obstacle that can be cleared.

Underhill also was of the opinion that the front office feels like winning now is the only thing that can make the Saints as a business work. I dont think the Front office is ready to tank yet as much as the common fan is.

If the Saints think they have a win now QB available they will make the numbers work, IMO.

I don't know if Carr is the guy but they might think he is.

Seems par for the course on this board. Wasn’t sure Rand felt that way though.

Good post.

I was listening to Underhill/Triplett a few days ago and they both seemed to express the FO isn’t looking to tank. They both were more on the side of Carr. I know sometimes Underhill gets some shade here as too close to the organization, but I don’t think he’s a parrot. I think he and Triplett both give their honest opinions.

Possibly, he basically failed the one year tryout the Raiders let McDaniel give him.

His accuracy was not the best according to a stat called excepted over completion percentage. Basically its a stat for "the pass should reasonably be completed if the ball is accurate" stat. Carr came in low on the list for the Qb's in the league this year. He hasn't always been low on this stat, but he was this year.

Hopefully if the Saints do decide Carr is the guy this was just a bad year for him and a change of scenery might help. But, I not confident think DA and Carmichael are coaches that can help a struggling QB.

Yeah, DA and PC are just the guys to fix Carr, and Carr is the missing piece the Saints need to make a Super Bowl run. What definitely won't happen is the Saints firmly secure a position as a mediocre team with mid round draft picks for the foreseeable future. Couldn't be more excited for it.

In business, it is kill or be killed. Plus, isn't Allen the one who drafted him. Doesn't seem too far off the spectrum.

I agree I don’t think there was ever going to be a trade. I think this was just a strategy to sell Carr on us and set a framework for a deal in FA. The fact that he said he isn’t waiving his no trade clause for any team makes me think he wants to come to NO. If not then why would he not entertain more visits. Sounds like he kind of shut it down and is ready to deal with the saints in free agency.
