If we end up with Carr it'll be without giving up picks and a different contract. That makes it a lot more palatable.

Lots of people here will be happy but this means he didn’t think our team was good enough

Or he could be signing with the Saints after he gets released? Lol. It never made sense to me for the Saints to trade for him.

I don't think that's what it means. If he does want to come here, which we don't know, then why wouldn't he give us contract flexibility and not make us give up picks? By signing a new contract we can manipulate the cap number how we see fit.

Eh, I think it could mean he rather the team he goes to not give up compensation for him. That doesn't help his future team.

I knew this was the strategy. Agree to terms of a trade, wine him and dine him to sell the Saints, and sign him to a contract the moment he is cut.

The #Saints and #Raiders had the framework of a trade in place for Derek Carr, but his contract — which would fully guarantee him $40.4 million as of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday — was an issue. Carr’s no-trade clause gave him power to veto any deal and effectively force his release.

So the Raiders gave the Saints permission to talk to him about a trade and we used it to convince him to refuse a trade with the contract parameters already agreed-upon? That's cold blooded

Not sure how you get that far, THEN the contract becomes an issue.

That's called being a good gm

The contract at 40 mil was always going to be a problem for any team.

That was ALWAYS getting re-worked, no matter which team he went to.

Whether it’s us or the Jets, why would he want his future team to give up a draft pick that could help his new team?

We won't win the bidding war.
I pray not. Many around here think he comes cheap.
