First of all the play happens so fast I believe Pierre is defenseless, no way he could have avoided that.

1. Do you think Pierre is defenseless?

2. Even if he is not defenseless is there anyway to show by this rule there is ever a circumstance where it is legal to hit someone with the crown of your helmet anywhere, but especially the head?

IMO this is the biggest play of the game, if Saints go up 7-0 i think the whole tone of the game is different.

Let it go.

It was a vicious, lethal, head cracking knock you arse out cold legal hit.

That type of hit happens every game. It was a good no call. What makes you think you were going to get 7 points?

I dunno maybe because we were at the goal line and our offense kicked arse minus turnovers.

And congrats on being the 3rd poster to not answer any of my questions

It was good hit, a great hit for that matter.

I don't think he was defenseless

If that was our guy laying that hit, we'd all be crowing from the rooftop

Well I don't get it. With all the hoopla about concussions in the NFL..........it was definitely a helmet to helmet.

Serious Question:

In a situation where a player of Thomas' size (height) turns upfield and dips his shoulder, is a taller defender supposed to just allow him to run over him, or should he have the opportunity to make a form tackle?

In the replay, you can clearly see both guys lowering their heads/shoulders...

That's football.

Don't see any threads about Harper hitting Alex Smith in the head on the Saints forced fumble.

That was an illegal hit. The hit on Thomas wasn't.

People need to accept it and move the frick on.

It wasn't an illegal hit...PT WAS NOT DEFENSELESS He was moving forward and lowered his own shoulders

continuing to bitch about it makes us sound like enormous fricking pussies

I know I'm not dreaming. there are lesser hits called for helmet to helmet every week in the NFL.

Bitching only about the inconstancy at which it is called. As far as the game goes.....that hit does not excuse the other 4 turnovers.

Based on that rule, the hit on P Thomas was without question an illegal hit.

And as a HUGE 49er fan, I had no problems with this hit as well. Great play by the D.

how is asking for an explanation bitching about it?

Also if you are happy with the level of consistency that this call is made then you must like umpires that change the strike zone everytime a batter comes to the plate

By the rule it's illegal, but I'm glad it wasn't called after watching it a few times. Pierre lowered his head and shoulders and left the defender nowhere to go. Just a tough football play IMO. It's not as if Pierre was defenseless and the defender launched into him.

no. he had already completed the catch, was moving upfield, and lowered his own shoulder

whitner didn't lead with the crown of his helmet

he lowered his body and even turned his head. the side of his helmet hit the side of pierre's helmet. whitner didn't launch himself, he lowered himself.

pierre engaged with his helmet on that play, too. that's why once you become a runner, the H2H rules are essentially gone (Except for leading with the crown and spearing/launching)
