Pat Swilling; somebody laughed about his even being mentioned, but he did get 18 sacks one season. If you could add a guy who did that last season, most people would be ecstatic.
Pat Swilling was a great player and would be a worthy pic except for one thing. He played with Rickie Jackson.
Anyone who would advocate Swilling over Jackson just does not understand football, defense or linebacker play.
Rickie Jackson was the heart and sole of those defenses. Sam Mills was the brains. Swilling was the beneficiary of the greatness around him. He was quick, but you could run right at him all day if Johnson wasn't there in support.

Sorry LSU homers, but deuce in his prime was 100 x better than Hilliard in his prime.
Incorrect. Deuce is one of my favorite saints ever. Dalton carried the team. Deuce carried the team. I would put them about even.

Chuck Muncie if we could get the cocaine-free version, if not, Rickey Jackson.

Earl Campbell, you didn't day they had to be in their prime when they were with the Saints

This is why I'd choose him over some of the others. Some of the past RB's would definitly be better than anything on the roster but we'd still have S.P. as the guy in charge and with him dedicated to the passing game, I don't see any of the past rb's being as much of difference maker. Or for that matter, Roaf....while leaps and bounds better than what's on the roster now, the OL runs through the interior mostly.
My second choice if that were an option though, would be Muncie at rb. If he could have stayed away from the blow, he'd probably be in the HOF.
I'd really overlooked Earl Campbell's stint on the team when I posted before due to how short and pedestrian his stay was here due to him basically being washed up when he arrived.
Can you imagine Campbell in his prime, with Brees at the helm on this team. Absolutely unstoppable. I was thinking Jackson when I first responded on this thread but the D already looks great, with Campbell in Brees' backfield......who could stop us.

Hard to choose one so I'll go O and D
Roaf or Jackson.

The Saints had 4 pro bowl LB's in the late 80's. I would have to select one of them. Either Ricky Jackson or Sam Mills...I am not picky

This really comes down to what position you think needs upgraded. For all of you whom are talking about how great Duece and Hilliard were, and you are right they were great, but if you want a RB then it has to be Earl Campbell. He was not in his prime with the Saints, but that is not the question. Earl in his short prime, was unstoppable.
Still...I am thinking this defense with Ricky Jackson would scare the hell out of people.

A clean and sober Chuck Muncie. If not for drugs and repeatedly having flats and missing the team plane
he could have been one of the greatest RB's in NFL history.

Toss up between Willie and Rickey. But I'm leaning toward Willie to sure up the left side of the o line.

I have a lot of confidence in Armstead. I'm by no means saying he will be the next Willie Roaf, but I think he will hold down the left tackle spot quiet well this coming year. I hope I'm right. I think Sam Mills would fill our biggest need.

Let's just bring all four Dome Patrol members back and be done with it.
