The Saints have no money to sign FA because ….

1) They keep backloading contracts , converting everything to signing bonuses and kicking the “can” down the road…. So it never ends. Year after Year after Year.

2) As a result, every damn year they start the season 70 to 100 million dollars over the Cap. Are you kidding me….Absolutely Fucckkin Ridiculous !

3) Then….they are blowing and busting high draft picks as if they were candy given out every day (i.e., Davenport two 1st rd picks, Turner a #1 rd pick, Penning #1 rd pick and other picks, then Foskey a 2nd rd pick, etc)….. I could go on.

4) Then …They have to “Re-Burn” high-round draft picks to replace the player busts they drafted originally …
Let me reiterate…for example, Davenport (DE) busts with two first rd picks spent…then they burn a 1st and 2nd rounder on Turner (DE) and Foskey (DE).

*** Then to make matters even worse…those 2 guys are busts !!

5) Which leads to not filling necessary roster holes via the draft with high round draft picks…because you are re-drafting positions.

How do we then fill the holes you couldn’t address in the draft due to your re-drafting ??

Ok you say…. Let’s fill some of those roster holes with FA money….

But you have No FA money … See Points 1 and 2 noted above.

It’s like a Damn Dog Chasing Its Tail !

SOLUTION:

1) Loomis and Allen gotta be fired!

2) Then blow the damn thing up with a rebuild.

COUNTERPOINT / REALITY

1) Saints have very little incentive to take the Solution actions listed above.

2) Why you might ask ??

— Because Gayle Benson won’t do what’s necessary.

—Saints Fans keep filling the Dome so the Saints don’t miss any revenue… no fiscal loss even though they keep fielding very avg. teams.

THE ULTIMATE RESULT

I guess we just sit back and watch the shite show.
Our average team will probably drop this year from being very average to an also-ran with a 6 win record due to the reasons noted above.

You guys can meet me at the Bar for whiskey…

As a hopeless Saints Fan….I guess I’m Buying the first round !!

1. Saints approach this year was not overpay and try to fill the roster with draft and low risk high reward talent.

2. They are eating money now instead of borrowing next 5 years (Kamara, Lattimore, etc) thinking of long term.

3. Allen is a dead man walking unless he makes the playoffs.

I really think we're 4-5 more days of discussing this over-and-over-and-over again all day everyday from it changing. We're almost there, guys - press on!

But it’s amazing the Saints fans tolerate it.

Is it stupidity, blind devotion or a combination of both ??

This is the main reason I hated the Carr signing. I would have much rather torn the bandaid off and sucked for 2 years but then be right back in a decent cap space with some top draft picks.

Carr just helps us be just good enough to not get a good first round pick but doesn't move the needle enough to get into the playoffs

A agree with just about every point you made. But I think that the smartest move will be to try and bolster the OL after cuts, and I’m hoping that’s why they haven’t signed any big free agents.
Our defense will be good. If we can get the O-line stronger and maybe get a receiver and rb after cuts, this season may not be a lost cause.
I don’t wanna lose faith before the first damn game.

Someone just said we are 100 million dollars OVER the cap for 2025 ?

We were 100 million dollars over the cap a few years (recently) back with Payton but I believe it dropped to 70 million shortly thereafter.

If we are 100 million dollars AGAIN over the cap for 2025……..

Aren’t we going in the WRONG DAMN DIRECTION … AND EVERYONE SAYING WE ARE FIXING THE CAP ?? !!! ??? !!

PS.
I really don’t like capitalizing but in this case I think it’s warranted :) Cheers

They (Loomis and Allen) signed Carr because they were trying to save their jobs in the “short-term”.

The “Long-term” play was to rebuild at that point.

Problem is….

1) Carr didn’t help them win games as a Difference Maker.

2).Saints spent the QB money
(100 million ??) virtually GUARANTEE an additional 3 years of Salary Cap Hell.

The only way the Saints are ever great again is if they suck so bad they get an Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning type QB.

I guess the other way is for Benson to die or sell the team, because otherwise Loomis is on a lifetime contract and he is the one kicking the can down the road to stay between 6-11 and 9-8.

I really believe the only remote chance Benson let’s go of Loomis is for people to stop attending games. …

I know people won’t give up their tickets…

But a large portion of the dome being empty each week might get results beyond Dennis Allen being fired.

Only power-move the fans possess…. Cause again.. they won’t give up their ticket ownership.

I mean not really. They don't really have anymore contracts to push.

Plus almost every contract over 5 mil has dummy years.

I don't get what you mean about Kamara and lattimore. This is Kamara's last yr with guaranteed money. If he doesn't pick it back up this yr they can cut him.

Lattimore is still under contract and they already pushed his money.

I think most of us would've. The problem is mickey leveraged the cap 3 and 4 yrs out with dummy yrs plus years of pushing huge money.

Plus I think Dennis Allen clearly pushed for Carr.

We have NO OFFENSIVE TACKLES

This team won't win a game without a mediocre offensive line. We should be willing to TRADE ANYTHING for a Right tackle, and our starting left tackle rookie just went down with an injury.

Either fire sale for picks, hit free agency and grab whatever warm blocking bodies you can find, or wheel and deal until we have a competent offensive line.

100%.
Also a rebuild sounds like the correct answer but there’s not a clear guarantee that we don’t stay in a perpetual rebuild for 10-20 years like some teams. A lot of luck is involved… also having a competitive team is something we can’t take for granted!!

The people that y’all want fired are the inner circle serving as pseudo ownership. Gayle isn’t some knowledgeable billionaire business owner. She inherited all of this and has zero training. She isn’t going to fire the inner circle Tom left her.

The organization is probably stuck in limbo until purchased.

Louisiana needs Todd Graves to come in and take over as a majority owner in a new ownership group to own the Saints and Pelicans.

I am not hating on Gayle really. I just don’t think she is actively managing the organizations like the other owners.

I said two years ago we shoujd be bargain basement shopping at qb until we get out from this cap mess. That was our only hope. We just made it worse with Carrs contract.

We had a chance to get Baker super cheap last year. Could have let him walk and then sign someone like Jimmy G and trade for Mac Jones and let them battle out. Together I think they will count 6 million against the cap. Baker counted less than that last year.

Use these recycle QBs while you groom someone and get out of this mess Loomis created years ago. Instead we double down for fricking Dennis Allen….

I liked us getting Carr but it was year to late. I wanted him paired with csp.

I feel sorry for this guy. Because I'm not sure if he's that bad. The Saints not only have led the league in bad salary cap management. They also have had the oldest or near oldest roster for the last 5 years.
Loomis should be shown the door before any coach is fired and a new GM should be able to make a change and chose the new coach.
The only fix is sacrificing 1-2 seasons and gut the roster, trade any aging player for future draft picks during the season to playoff caliber teams that may over pay a spot or 2 in the draft order.
When the cap issue if fixed then hire a coach, why would a top tier coach come here now looking at this cap issue?
