Agreed 100%
But if you could build an OT in a lab, it would look like penning. It seems that he is improvong for the first time in his career though. Still not uber talented

Well then why is it that the guys that do those grades don't even bother putting their name on it??
Hard to know if anyone's credible if they don't even put their name on it.
Or what previous line of work they've been in?
I'm just saying people make way too big a deal about their freaking scores.

Penning will be a hall of famer one day……
In the WWE.
In the WWE.

What?
All these guys are trying to make money, not be anonymous.
Simple research shows that Penning was highly rated and had a crazy combine.
Small school was always his downside, and as several posters have mentioned, despite his athleticism, he is more of road grading right tackle than a dependable pass protector at left.
He graded well for once.
Pointing out an obvious positive should be fair play.

It was good to see Penning have a better game.
I'm not trying to dog him.
All I meant is that site leaves itself open for a lot of fundamental questions.
I'd much rather know what the coach es would have to say and how they would grade the player than those guys is all I'm trying to say.
I mean if that's a contrarian take I'm not going to apologize for it.

He's such a frustrating watch because the play breakdown looks something like this:
- 25% of the time, he's absolutely murdering someone and looking like a future All Pro
- 25% of the time he's doing fine, passable, can start
- 25% of the time he's struggling but wouldn't cripple the offense entirely
- 25% of the time he looks like the worst OL in the NFL that's going to get all 3 QBs killed in one game

I thought he had a few really nice recoveries Sunday, but they scared me. One in particular had him beaten badly to the inside, but he was able to shove the rusher to the left and wash him out of the play. However, I still don't love how that could impact a QB who, ahem, does not always handle pressure well, and it's the kind of play that you fear isn't repeatable. I would love to know how a play like that grades on PFF. My assumption is that it grades well, but it would worry me all the same.

Fuss and Complain, but he will be on this roster.

If he would remember his technique in pass blocking instead of just giving ground and hoping to out muscle the guy he might be worth something. Until he can put that all together he’s just a liability.

Be careful saying things looking up on this site….

Penning with an 80.2 pff last game.
let's revisit this thread MULTIPLE times this year, especially from the 2nd game of the year onward (Carolina game don't count, they suck)

I really think I could bull rush him back to the QB.
His back stance is horrible and begs for a bull rush every time. At this point he is just one grade above a speed bump.

Well then take out the game with the best he will face.

Arden Key looked like an all-pro last year vs him, so its fair game

Just the fact that we are talking about him being "ok" is an improvement.
