generational athletic ability/size combo.
That’s a stretch.... wouldn’t be going at the end of round 1 ... if he was generational anything

Throw in he models his game after Cam Jordan and will get to spend a few seasons learning from him.

Watching film on this guy, christ he does have a helluva wingspan. Hope he contributes sooner than later. This defense needs some help at all levels.

I just can't see a scenario where this guy is a complete non-factor for us. I don't hate the pick

Medicals. Some people were concerned with his injury history and with being unable to have your own guys evaluate because of covid shied away. His meds came into all teams I think last week which assuaged some fears.
Production. He only played edge a very short time, but was productive this year in a covid shortened season when he did.
If he had played a full season he probably goes top 15 if his production continued like it was.

That still doesn’t make him a generational talent... Ed Oliver was on the same D-line as Turner... this should have resulted in way more production

Makes me feel good that I had UH season tickets a few years ago.

He had 5 sacks in 5 games and then got Covid, and they only played 8 games total.
He was playing out of position at DT.
He is not a generational talent, that's a stupid take.
But...he is an athletic freak that is quite literally built for the position and for Dennis Allen's system.
Also...
He is a Cam Jordan replacement not a Davenport one, IMO.

No one said generational talent. He has generational size/athletic measurable combo. It's in the metrics.
When you plug in his size, wingspan, vert and agility timings into a chart he is an outlier.

I just read a scouting report on him that said that he was slow off the edge. Hopefully that wasnt accurate

That’s always a good metric to apply to your #1 pick. “He should give us something, so I’m ok with it!”
We can find players to give us something all over the draft…

People just want to be the "voice of reason" and justify this dumbass pick so bad. Cringe.

I was simply speaking to what I think his floor is. I think our FO and Sean see him as a potential replacement for Cam (Or Davenport if he doesn't step up). He can be really good

Or we aren't melting losers and realize that we are not professional scouts, and there is value to be had all over the place.
The 28th pick is going to be a guy, generally, with "2nd round value".
Some of us actually understand how the draft works, how teams think, etc.
If you like a guy, you take him. If you have a vision for the player, you take him. You don't think about how Mel Kiper or Poopy_Stinks69 will feel about it.

You created a posi-saints only thread but im the loser. Gfy guy.

The Saints have put a lot of emphasis on character in recent years after a 3-4 year span of knuckleheads in the locker room. Everything you read about this guy mentions he had great character. It also mentions consistent effort, which is something NO ONE can coach/teach. A guy either has desire or he doesn't.
In many ways he looks like Davenport 2.0. Physical freak that played at a lower level of CBB. Not overwhelming production, but the thought that he could develop into a monster. Davenport has had moments, but injuries have slowed him down. MAYBE this is the freak the Saints wanted in Davenport. If so, having a freak on one end and a good, but maybe not elite Davenport on the other is still pretty good in a league where pressure on the QB is still the best defense.

First of all, yeah, you are kind of a loser for melting for two days over the Saints taking a pass rusher.
2nd, it was not a "posi-saint only thread". It was people in the OP with positive things to say. You could post in that thread countering what they are saying. It was not intended to be positive thoughts only throughout the thread.
People totally melting over the draft cracks me up. The draft is a total and complete crap shoot. None of us have a fricking clue what these guys are going to do...and honestly that includes the teams.
Some of these guys are going to be good and some are going to suck, and that goes for all teams.

Physically yes.
But the knock on Davenport coming out was that he might not actually love football and he didn't always hustle. And to me that has shown.
This dude apparently loves football and is constantly hustling.
