Spags is history

Lets see how serious the Saints are in having a D that will help the team. If they let him go they are serious.

I just seem to think these players don't like this D and are going thru the motion. No one that gets paid like they do can be that inept at tackling and covering.

Who cares. Nothing today changed anything. It's 2013 already and the saints are stacked.

I hate how everyone says the defense is improving or the fact that it's the defensive lines fault but we are only a DE away from a great defense or it's the offenses fault.

THIS DEFENSE IS BAD! They do nothing well. Again, not saying he needs to be fired or that we don't need better players, but I'm not impressed with Spags this year.

Giving up lots of yards leads to time of possession. Time of possession keeps Brees off the field. Without Brees and the offense having a chance to outscore opponents, giving up yards can be more important than points with an offense than can score with anyone.

They definitely deserve it. Most disgracefully performance by a professional unit I have ever witnessed.

We're either the most patient, or naive, or dumbest fanbase in the league to put up with a defense thats been awful for the better part of decade.

i've been a nega saint for bringing this up, especially our outright intentional ignoring of OLB talent and pass rushers

let's not question the wisdom of our front office trading up and wasting a 1st rounder on ingram (or trying to do it a couple years earlier with beanie fricking wells) or signing roman harper to an insane deal. there's always an excuse

But when you consider that its been the same issue for the entire Payton era,

hell even in our title year our D wasn't exactly good, but we just got really fricking lucky with turnovers

I don't disagree. No doubt Payton and the front office have to get serious about defense. However, my earlier point is that I wouldn't lay this all on Spags. We don't have the playmakers, imo, fwiw, blah, blah, etc.

Is our defense terrible? yes, yes it is

Is it the worst ever? no
its up there
but considering the same Colts team used to own most yards and most points given up in a single season, back in the 80's where the leagues wasn't as oriented to Offense as it is now. I would say they are still much worse.

well considering it sold out what might be the greatest offense of all time... that b-more team was 2-14 and then 0-8-1 in a strike year. this defense has had much higher consequential failures, in the playoffs and with an offense that still managed to lead it to 7-9

The offense didn't do themselves any favors this season either by failing to consistently convert 3rd downs. They are partly to blame for getting beat in time of possession so often this season.
