You have made some retarted post on this site but this maybe an all time low.

Usually when coaches set all time lows during their tenure, they tend to not be retained.

I don't think that will happen, but if I see on ESPN that Spags got he axe, I wouldn't be shocked.

yards indicate the offense's ability to move the ball, which is the point of a defense

no, the point of a defense is to help win the game which breaks down like this

Win>to win you need more points>to have more points you have to stop them from scoring>to stop them from scoring you have to stop them from getting in end zone>to stop them from getting in end zone, you have to stop them from moving the ball towards it.

Fundamental flaw, points is higher up the reasoning tree.

By the end of this game the 2012 Saints will be the worst defense in NFL history by a large margin.

It won't be close.

And the beat goes on. Trying to set the mark where it can never be eclipsed. Awesome!

Benson: Look, Spags, we know there are awful circumstances with this bounty situation and the personnel might not be exactly what you'd like but can you not have the worst defense ever?

Spags: ehhh....

I don't suppose it could have anything to do with our D being afraid to touch anyone for fear of being accused of playing for a "bounty?" That couldn't possibly be it.

our talent on D is really bad

slow LBs, no impact DTs, average DEs at best, lack of coverage in the secondary

Pretty much this.

It's easy for a team to show improvement when they hit rock bottom.

Definitely.

And its been a personnel issue for years.

We're either the most patient, or naive, or dumbest fanbase in the league to put up with a defense thats been awful for the better part of decade.

We're literally arguing what level of terrible this year's defense is. In a vacuum, thats bad enough. But when you consider that its been the same issue for the entire Payton era, whatever "improvements" they've made this year aren't nearly enough.

This isn't a one year thing. They've had 7 years to improve this defense and can't even manage to get to mediocre.

i've been a nega saint for bringing this up, especially our outright intentional ignoring of OLB talent and pass rushers

let's not question the wisdom of our front office trading up and wasting a 1st rounder on ingram (or trying to do it a couple years earlier with beanie fricking wells) or signing roman harper to an insane deal. there's always an excuse

hell even in our title year our D wasn't exactly good, but we just got really fricking lucky with turnovers

Same here.
Its indefensible to have the meltdown in Seattle a few seasons ago, then get worse the next year and have a worse meltdown against San Francisco. The get even worse this year. Yet people are still hell bent on going to bat for these guys. They're AWFUL. Who cares whether its the worst of all time? Does it matter? We know they're garbage.

Its why Sharper should've won every defensive award known to man. He erased so many of the mistakes we'd had the years prior, and mistakes we started having again the minute he left.
