In fairness, when Bobby Hebert is totally shitfaced he's pretty entertaining

I'm not sure Buddy D would have liked all the success this year IMO he thrived on the nagativity and all the losing.Any positive calls were made fun of (squirrels).JMHO he's up there watching I'm just not sure what he's thinking.

He was really out of touch toward his last few years on the air. He was an old school type sports guy, hung up on betting and the ponies as much as anything.

I recall when LSU was in the first BCS game, and the Saints were wrapping up a mediocre season, a night or two before the championship game when everyone was itching to discuss that game, he insisted on going forward with his lame 2 hour long NFL "pickem" show, that all but a handful of people in town could have really given a shite about.

Buddy became a caricature of himself towards the end. He was much better back in the old John Mecom days when the Saints were easy to savage.

My favorite Buddy D story came in the early 70's, at a benefit for the Louisiana Lions charity. One of the Lions reps told Buddy he should lay off Mecom because he'd done a lot for the Lions.

"Sure he has" Buddy D said..."He's also done a lot for the Bears, the Vikings, the Falcons..."

The move with Deuce last Friday was very classy, no doubt, but just imagine if they announced tomorrow that they were unfurling a Buddy D honorary banner at Sunday's game?

Dome would implode, I'd bet.

Every Christmas, Hap would play a short video of chimpanzees celebrating Christmas, opening presents, etc. It was so out of place in the sports segment but we looked forward to seeing it.

Jimmy Steel was on channel 6 at the time ("raise the victory cup to the Saints") but I can't remember who was on 8's sports segment.

As I recall he did college games as well.....I don't know, I really miss that show. For some odd reason I always got a kick out of it, when he would ask a handicapper about a game and the response would be "I have no opinion on that one".

But seriously, you have to admit that show was light years than the Fan and the Pro show they have on now on Fridays. Tommy Tucker/Bob Mitchell with Hokie talking football makes me want to put cotton into my ears. Its almost torturious.

Channel 8 was Buddy D.

Buddy, Alec Gifford and Nash Roberts did Channel 8 for a number of years.

I used to love watching "From the Pressbox" with Buddy D. right before every Monday Night Football game. Every show he would give out a Longinnes-Wittnauer gold watch to the Saints player of the game.

LOL, because there was NOTHING to be positive about most years ! Most years Saints were BAD. Buddy D was a BIG saints fan, but he told it like it was. On one team flight(before he got BANNED)Doug ATKINS picked him up and tried to throw him off the plane, only thing was, they were 30,000 feet in the air !

Best Buddy D moment I ever saw/ heard. IT happened live at the Treasure Chest one night.

H Shuler was the Saints QB at the time and everyone in N.O. except Ditka wanted the guy on the bench...

CALLER: Hey Buddy, I was wonderin if you think Ditka is being so stubborn with Shuler out of respect for his dad, having won all those games in Miami.

Dead silence for about 10 seconds in the entire lounge.....

BUDDY (YELLING LOUDLY with a dumbfounded look on his face and flailing his arms in the air): "Uhh Uhhh Uhh...are you nuts? Who are you? Thats not his dad. They dont even spell it the same? What a squirrell! Who is this guy? How did he get through? What a squirrell! I need a break! We'll be right back.
