actually made sense to run it on 3rd with SF only having one timeout and the 2 min warning looming. you convert and you go into 2 minute offense. If you don't you depend on a booming punt and an inexperienced QB to score at the end of the half. But if you throw an incomplete pass, you give SF an extra timeout to work with. I would have preferred a pass as well, but the logic was sound.
