Is this where I come to fap?
I like the signing a lot. I have a feeling Champ is going to show 2013 was mostly injuries and make a nice impact for us. And of course, as others have mentioned, the knowledge he brings could be his biggest impact.

Incredibly stacked, this defense is.
I can't wait to see the damage Rob Ryan is going to do with this kind of talent.

I really haven't weighed in on the signing, but I think it's a win for the Saints.
You have 3 scenarios. 1) Champ is done and can't play anymore, 2) An aging Champ still has some wheels post injury and lights it up a season or two, 3) An aging Champ has less game, but has a spot role and mentors the young secondary.
For the $$, I think it's a great signing.

I want to see a pic of Rob Ryans' face between signing Jarius Byrd and now Champ Bailey...
god forbid Jabari Greer can rehab properly and be available by mid or post season...can you imagine the "possibility" of having a secondary that features
Byrd, Vacarro, Lewis, Champ, Greer, Robinson, White
not including any additional players added via the draft or the slight possibility of retaining Bush.(it isn't official till its official)
Best off season since 2006!

Yeah, I pretty much :fap: throughout this FA.
Captain Obvious, but the direction seems clear. Stockpile the defense and then fill in the remaining gaps on O and D with the draft.
I was on this board during the "are we really going to get Byrd? Don't let him leave NO!".
I for one, thought is was a pipedream to get Byrd. And the Saints haven't stopped there. This may be the best FA period I can remember for the Saints. Every move is solid IMO.

We might go WR with 2 of our first 3 picks in the draft...imagine any combination you can come up with together and how our skill positions are immediately set at that point with 5 other draft picks to just select whatever you want or deem necessary.
something tells me...draft weekend i should be watching somewhere privately.

I think it's an attractive landing spot for Bailey. He has Lewis on the other side, and has superior safeties playing behind him. I honestly feel that the #2 cb is a low stress position.

If the FO has gotten this one right Paddy we are looking really good in the secondary.

It was before the signing. We were able to field a 2nd ranked passing defense with inferior personnel. Crazy to think about.

Last year the Saints D was an upstart. This offseason has it now solidified as a top 5 unit IMO. It's all on paper at this point, but locking down big passing plays in the secondary with a great pass rush and ball hawks all over the place... yes!
And the offense isn't just going away either. When you have Payton, Drew, O line almost in place, the rest of the pieces will come together. And I'm short-selling it. Colston, Graham, Stills + draft, Ingram and Robinson should be above average, etc.

I'm kind of thinking scenario #3 there. That would be fricking great if he can come up with more than that though obviously.

Whoever Will is needs to get a life. Who spends all day replying to every negative comment on an espn article?

quote:The most likely option, but it can go a long way. There's no way it could hurt to bring in one of the best cornerbacks the game has ever seen, even if it is in a spot role. He's a great locker room presence and could help the players just about as good as any coach. Game preparation, I would expect, will be better for secondary players this year.
