Now that the season is over, looking next to free agency and the cap.

We currently will be over $7 mil to start the year, counting all the guys who will void like Cam, DD, and Hill and the carryover.
Without cutting anyone we can be $56+ mil under the cap with simple restructures.
Extending any of the 3 mentioned above can lessen their cap hit and give us more space.
Extending guys like Olave on the last year of their deals can also give us more space.
And with the way we structure the 1st year of deals, this means that $56+ mil can stretch extremely far.
Now that we have our QB1 cheap for the next 3 years, it is imperative that we look to go all in starting next year to try to maximize our chances, so we'll need to look closely at this FA class and see where we can get the most improvement.
I'll edit the post to include a list of FAs and see where we should be looking to upgrade there, and what positions we would have to look to upgrade in the draft instead.
OTC FA list
This is a good list to sort, but I will also look for a ranked list to add.
Top 10 by position
A good top 10 at each position. I notice a LOT of former saints' defensive players on this list.

Seems to fit Shough and Rattler's playstyle if we're looking for similar skill set backups.

What we do here says what we'll do in the draft most likely.

Would be hilarious if Shid came back to NOLA after being half-a-season rental to Seattle

Given they tanked his value there and Shough seemed to be building a connection with him, I could see it if he doesn't ask for too much.
But this fa receiver crop is super thin, so he may get vastly overpaid if someone takes a swing.

Alec Pierce would fix our WR problem
Posted on 1/4/26 at 7:21 pm to imAMAZING
Wouldn't say he would fix it, but he would be a nice piece. Think we would still need that absolute alpha type. Olave has proven very good, but that small body type receiver only gets you so far (with very few exceptions throughout the years). He's no Steve Smith, for instance.

I was also eyeing Reader hard when looking through the lists.

Alec Pierce and OT at #8 is literally all we need to win NFCS

Our Tackles were not the issue. We need a guard (or 2) and McCoy to stay healthy.
Don't think there is a guard to take at 8, which is why I think we just go pure bpa at 8 and address guard in round 2.

Thought he was much older. Guy has been around forever. Guy can definitely anchor the D line

Move Fuaga to RG next to his Polynesian brother Fano and we have a top 10 young OL

We need to not try to keep making tackles play guard, guards play tackle, and centers play guard and vice versa. Fuaga is an excellent tackle. Leave him be.

Going back to Shaheed and just how much being in Seattle may have tanked his value, he played 9 games for both teams (started 9 for us and 4 for Seattle). This was his stats at each:
Saints
66 targets, 44 catches, 499 yards receiving, and 2 tds
Seahawks
26 targets, 15 catches, 188 yards receiving
He did have 1 big run with Seattle for 31 yards, but was otherwise mostly a dud compared to how he was being used here. 40 fewer targets and 29 fewer catches is a stark difference.

Did some more checking, and extending Jordan, Davis, and Olave, in addition to the restructures and carryover, gets us to around $76 mil in cap space, so yeah we can go pretty deep if we want to grab up certain players.
This looks like a thinner FA overall, but there are definitely certain guys at certain spots that would make sense to go in on.

He had 2 return TDs as a Seahawk as well... 1 against the Falcons & the 1 that jumpstarted the comeback against the Rams in Seattle... a key win on their way to the NFC's 1-seed

If we are going to sign a WR in FA, I would rather Alec Pierce. I love Shaheed, but Alec is a better route runner and better on contested catches. On the flip side, Seattle may have fricked up his value (as was already said here) so if you can get him for better value I get it.
Alec is younger though.
If we get a RB in FA, I would love to have Kenneth Walker. I think he would fit Kellen’s system, and he is explosive while being able to break tackles.

Fuaga was not good at RT this year. I know he was injured part of the season, but he wasn’t good at the beginning of the season either.
Also, Fuaga had plenty of people talking about him being a guard when he was drafted. Stop acting like a hysterical women and pearl clutching over offensive lineman being moved around. Every team does it. If you can get a top RT and move Fuaga to guard, you take your biggest weakness and turn it into a strength.
Posted on 1/4/26 at 9:32 pm to rt3
I was limiting the talk to what he did on offense, because his value as a returner has always been obvious, though I don't think that will up his contract value as much as what he can do as a receiver.
It's definitely a plus, but not what gets you paid.
