Disappointed they did not get the win but not upset over the loss. It takes about 4 games to know which teams are contenders and which are pretenders so the jury is still out on the saints and their opposition so far.

I did not expect this team to play like they did the 1st two games, but it was a nice surprise. I did not think this team had the talent to be who they looked like the 1st two games, and it appears this is true because losing 1 or two players should not be that drastic of a performance difference.

What I liked is that Phi is a good team and the Saints fought them toe to toe. There were a couple plays on Offense that would have changed the game and a couple on Defense the same way.

What this game did show/prove is that the offense is what will determine wins and losses this season. The Offense has to give the defense some help because if the defense has a score cushion that game turns out differently.

Losses don't kill a season in the pros like they do in CFB. Ok so this season won't start out like the '09 season did, but we can still keep on rocking and hopefully make the playoffs and more. Of course, we still have Dennis Allen as head coach so we very easily could shite the bed enough to miss the playoffs again.

If they take the FG instead of the 4th down try and don’t screw up the 3rd and 16, we win that game. McCoy and Hill being hurt also did not help. We’re okay, but I’m sure the media will put us on blast.

Spoken like a true damn fool. The Eagles were down their all pro wr and lost slay and smith in the game. You were 2-0 and at home with all the momentum and your defense playing lights out.

This is the fricking Packers game last year all fricking over again. If we miss the playoffs this fricking game will be one of the main reasons why.

Hill and McCoy being out doesn't factor into your poo poo logic I guess.

Careful calling people fools when you post foolish talk. Your 3 games Minton the season and you talking about a loss causing you to miss the playoffs?? If the saints miss the playoffs it will be because of many more losses for many more reason than this loss.

I recall the fools gold season of 1993. Saints started 5-0 going into the bye. They go to Pitt after the bye and get SLAUGHTERED. FINISH THE SEASON 8-8 and miss the playoffs.

Yep we win if not for the unlucky break on 3rd down.

Considering so many posters on this board are also saying it, what narrative do you expect the media to run with?

It shouldve factored into the playcalling and it didn't.

It makes it pretty hard to call plays when you are getting crushed on the interior following McCoy going down, and the key to the successful outside run game was Taysom's lead blocking. Not excusing Kubiak but he wasn't given a very easy task yesterday.

Atlanta's d-line is good, but not as good as Philly. Let's see what Kubiak can do with a full week of prep.

Looked to me like Hill being out WAS factored into the gameplan. First series we moved the ball really well without Taysom. Then McCoy went down, and our LG had to move to C and a newbie came in at LG.

It was all downhill from there on the offense as their DL got massive penetration up the middle for the rest of the game. That threw off Carr's passing and also messed up running plays. That cascaded to the defense who are really good - but not good enough to win games on their own.

What you CAN, however, pin on DA and Kubiak is the lack of depth on the OL. Another poster said that it's likely because we're still in cap hell and couldn't afford quality backups. Maybe, maybe not. Cap hell or no, losing one player (other than a star QB) shouldn't be the cause of a team's demise.

The good thing, though, is that this happened early in the season. Hopefully early enough for the coaching staff to correct it before the deadline.

The Saints were a few inches here and there from beating one of the favorites for the Super Bowl. I'll take that. This defense is dominant and our offense struggled a little today because of game planning (IMO), but I still think this team is good enough to make the playoffs.

Did anyone expect us to win by 40 every game this year?

It makes it even harder when you refuse to stop running into the weakest part of your line over and over and over. Especially on 4th and fricking 1 when you won on the edge all game.

Anyone who thought that was drinking some nasty, dank-arse concoction bought from a street vendor on the wrong end of Bourbon Street.

That said, I agree that this was the Saint's game to lose. Yeah, losing McCoy and the resultant changes to the OL were devastating. Not having Taysom also took away our short-yardage security blanket. That said, we still were a RCH away from winning anyway.

My biggest frustration is that the offense has now been shown to be a finely-tuned, if somewhat delicate, machine. When working as expected, it's a beauty to behold.

But having a part go bad and then replacing it with a Temu blue-light special (all we can afford in cap hell) throws the whole thing into disarray.

Like I said before: hopefully getting punched in the mouth this early in the season serves as a wake-up call for the Saints (and WhoDat nation). DA better get with Kubiak and have a better plan for when (not if) we lose another cog in the well-oiled machine of our offense.

Just my two pennies worth, ya'll.

I agree, at least run behind Penning who you know can at least run block at a high level. I would have loved to see Shaheed on a jet sweep there.

Any X&O people have insight in what was different in the O blocking scheme outside of missing Hill and then McCoy. It seemed like it was more than a a drop off in player talent. Did they have to change the blocking scheme to man on man? Did the Eagles overload and sellout to stuff the run?

Have not seen any breakdown other than blaming it on player injuries.

I honestly thought we had no shot after McCoy went out. Glad they kept it close.

In a game of inches, we were just a few away. Not being upset with a loss is not the same as being content with losing. We were down some key contributors, played badly at times, and still had a chance to win. Will learn more about themselves from times like that than by 40pt blowouts.
