35 is insane. No point to even return kicks anymore. Just kneel and your almost to midfield already

The accuracy to kick it still inside is gonna be paramount. I don't hate it.

They are enticing more kicks to land before the endzone to avoid touchbacks idiot. The kicking team wont wont a touchback for sure when they can land the kick on the 15 YL.

This is a good move on their part.

Why is it that the rules of the game need to change every damn year? Can’t they just settle on a set of rules? It’s a clown show.

You don't understand the rule. You only get a touchback if the ball is kicked into into the endzone. If the ball lands short of the endzone (which is what teams will do), it has to be returned or it is put at the 20. This rule change will prevent touchbacks because no one is going to kick it into the endzone and concede the 35.

Nah, I understand the rule. Kicking short will still lead to good returns so the offense will have good field position no matter what.

Also what happens at the end of close games? You think teams are going to risk having a kick returned for a TD on them? No they’re going to kick it out the end zone like usual and now teams will be set up even better for go ahead scores

No more kickoffs. Just place the ball on the 20 yard line unless you declare an onside kick.

Limit of one onside kick each half per team.

Heard this from a friend who spoke to a friend as a future NFL rule.

I remember when having a kicker that could boot it out of the end zone was a weapon

If this is an April Fools joke, it didn't go well. You may have fooled a few people, but the joke part failed miserably.

The average field position after a "kicking short" in 2024 was the 29.6-yard line. In exchange for that extra 4.6 yards of "good field position" (compared to the 25 yd line touchback in previous seasons), we get to enjoy one of the most exciting plays in football, a kickoff return, maybe 10 times a game or more depending on scoring. Or did you like watching the kneel down kickoff 90% of the time?

Isn't that if it goes into the end zone?

Literally one 18 yard pass away from 50/50 FG range now (for the top kickers). Crazy.

A team down by 1, 2, or 3 points only needs 6 seconds and a timeout to be alive.

Well then, don't kick off into the end zone.
