Maxx Crosby is a top 10 player in the NFL.

Top 10 edge? Maybe. Top 10 player in the league regardless of position? Not even close. If we could somehow get him it would be great but also he hasn’t been elite in 2 seasons and he’s going to be 29 next year so I’m not expecting another All-Pro season out of him

I'm aware that Crosby absolutely loves his Vegas nightlife and is good friends with Dana White. He doesn't want to leave Vegas.

Side note: It always bugs me when a knock on a 1st round draft prospect is that he is considered too old for being 24 or 25 y/o, yet veterans like Tyreek Hill (28), Micah Parsons (26), or potentially, a Maxx Crosby (28) can command a 1st Round pick & it's considered a no-brainer. Hell, Hill & Parsons each cost two 1st rd picks

Risk and readiness.

An established, elite player has almost 0 risk in terms of immediate, elite performance.

Draft picks are still crapshoots and typically need time to reach their apex. So you increase the risk (of them never being elite) and they're going to take time to hit that peak, typically (if everything works out and they become elite).

So just for some Saints comps. Maxx Crosby v. Marcus Davenport

I don’t watch the NFL nearly as much as I used to, so with that being said, I’m curious.. Is Crosby as good as everybody says he is or is he just hype?

He is a great edge, but not elite. Not even a tier down from elite. At best he is a borderline top 15 edge, which is something we can use, but not something to give up a haul for.

If you look at my other posts, he isn't even on Parsons level, and is actually closer to Cam than him when it comes to sacks.

For quick reference, per 17 games:

Cam- 9.4 sacks, 29 pressures, 52 tackles, and a 6.7% missed tackle rate

Crosby- 10.7 sacks, 41 pressures, 68 tackles, and an 8.4% missed tackle rate

Parsons- 14.4 sacks, 50 pressures, 66 tackles, and an 8.3% missed tackle rate

Garrett- 16.4 sacks, 46 pressures, 53 tackles, and a 5.2% missed tackles rate

I mean the Saints should absolutely make a pitch for him

Never mind
I though he was FA or something, he just signed a 3 yr / $106.5M extension through 2029.

I’d rather we pass, I just want one of the big three edges in the draft. Any of the three will do, and we rotate them in with Granderson.

Or re-sign Cam and trade Granderson for help on the offense. Theres rumors of Addison being traded. I’d jump on that for Granderson. Or re-route Granderson to another team for assets to get Addison.

I don't see how the saints could pass on Bain if he slipped to 8.

Imo the saints would have to move up a few spots if they wanted to draft bain.

I couldn't believe there were people on here who said they wouldn't want bain at 8.

I think Reese would be the best fit but he won’t be there, hoping for Bain or Bailey to be there. I’m good with either one.

there is no fkin way we are signing some big ticket contract when things are going in the right direction without having to do it.

I get what you are saying in regards to Crosby. But we are indeed about to sign atleast (2) "big ticket contracts" this offseason in order for things to go in the right direction. Maybe even 3.

Olave will probably get +30mil
OG will probably get +20mil
Alontae- +16mil

The issue is not the money but the picks to get him. We could draft Delane, let Alontae walk, and restructure Cam. That gives us $20mil of Crosby's $35mil. At that point if you can actually include one of Granderson/ Ruiz then the contract is almost paid for. That is all pretty easily justifiable. Trading several 1sts or 2nds is what is tough.

Honestly if we can do the above and actually end up with Crosby + Delane + stud OG then I'd be ok with giving up next years 1st considering it should be in the 20's or late teens at best.

Maxx also has a decending contract so after $35mil this year the remaining years are 30/27/28. Getting 8mil back for the upcoming seasons would help for the future once the trade is done.

Its not likely but definitely more doable than some make it seem.
