LINK / I’ve been a diehard Saints fan from birth, and I swear I never wished this but, I wish my Saints don’t win another game so that we at least have a shot at drafting Jayden Daniels. WISHFUL THINKING.

For his passing?

Running qb’s don’t do as well in the NFL as in college so his legs would not be as big a factor.

Not saying he’s not worthy.

The Saints aren’t drafting a QB. They’ll probably draft a DL from a Division II school.

This is outdated thinking. Strictly running qbs I agree, but the ability to extend plays with your legs is becoming more and more common and sought after in the NFL.

Also, looked pretty fricking good passing the ball this year.

Agree. That’s why I asked if he was hoping to have him on passing alone or thinking he would put up big numbers on the ground.

Good point about extending plays.

He averaged over 300 yds passing per game with a 72% completion rate.
I wouldn’t really call him a “running qb” anymore even though he has that skill.

When I think of running qb, I think of last year where if your first read isn’t open you rely on your legs. That wasn’t JD this year..

I see him being Lamar jackson, but a better passer in the league

Is Jayden just a "running QB"?

No. He’s an excellent passer as well.

Just you saying this shows you haven’t watched at all. He is the most accomplished passer this year by pretty much every metric. One of the most accomplished passers dating back years not just this one. He makes all the throws. His accuracy on deep balls is pretty great. Timing throws. You name it he’s proven he excels at it. Haven’t even mentioned his ability to extend the play. He’s a legit awesome prospect for his ability in the pocket alone.

Cam Newton is your example of running QBs that don’t work in the nfl!?

Yea, you don’t know ball.

Dang. Did not realize that. I thought he’d struggled after getting into the league.

I think the success of Lamar and Hurts in the league along with Josh Allen to a degree actually opens up the door for Jayden for NFL teams to see that game changing potential. Mahomes is more of a scrambler and easily a unicorn.

Jayden at this stage is much more polished as a passer than Lamar or Hurts were. I objectively think Jayden goes top 10.

Another thing worth mentioning:

Daniels quickly picked up a completely new system, on a different team with all new-to-him players around him. Year 1 was a bit shaky but he showed a lot of potential; year 2 he's blossomed into becoming the best QB at his level (unanimous 1st Team All SEC qb, Davey O'Brien winner, Heisman finalist even if he doesn't win it).

This helps answer the question "how well will he transition to the NFL?"; he isn't just a system guy, or propped up by surrounding talent.

Worst case scenario, you take him in the 1st round, and if he doesn't pan out at QB you still have a Kamara/McCaffery level open field threat.

They haven’t picked a first-round quarterback since 1971 when Archie Manning was their selection (and, for added context, his grandson Arch is a few years away from starting his own pro football career)

How’s about he actually earn a starting job in college first?
