You can’t pay a WR 20-22 million a year. I love Mike, but you just can’t do it.

Why cant you?

This isnt 10 years ago where the cap was at like 125 million.

Its not like all these other guys were lighting it up.

Offer $18.5M a year or let him walk.

I love Mike, but he has been very fortunate to have had one of the greatest QBs of all time throwing to him. Offer him some nice incentives that if he can still put up big numbers with whomever Drew's successor is, he'll still get paid.

Baw better be careful. Graham thought he was worth a lot and now his career is pretty dead. Graham has never came close to the stats he had as a Saint.

Did y’all see MT play since he has been drafted and the fact that even doubled teamed last season he caught like 85% of all he passes thrown to him? You think Julio Jones or OBJ is that much better?

this gets into not being worth it for us, pay him super star status and lose 4-5 good solid players we need like they did to sign JG, and then the team sucks after because of it.

or just say thanks but we cant afford that much and let him walk if need be or franchise him to keep him here for drews last year or two then let him go.

do i think drew cant make another nobody into a star, no not at this point in his career, but he sure as hell can take us to a SB with a bunch of very serviceable and capable non top 5 receivers who arent on the same level that MT is

They oughta bring Brees into the meeting to tell him he'll just make a brand new Michael Thomas next year out of someone.

Yeah because clearly Brees was able to make Smith and Kirkwood stars after Ginn went down. And Nick Toon was so awesome. And Cadet, TLL, AA, Coleman, etc.

Only idiots believe Brees can make any receiver great.

Brees can:
Make a receiver better than he would be most anywhere else.

Brees can't:
Make shite receivers turn into stars.

Thomas would be elite no matter where he went. Brees helps him with ball placement but Thomas straight up manhandles dudes on the regular. He'd put up 1,200 yards pretty much anywhere.

Colston elswhere wouldn't have been a 1,000 yard receiver, but he had the ability to be a 700-800 yard guy most other places.

It's stupid to say Brees MAKES receivers. He ups their play but he definitely doesn't make them, or we would have been flush with tons of them instead of struggling mightily at times.

This is the dumbest shite imaginable. I’m sure they’ll bring Adrian Arrington back too and he’ll be the next Marques Colston.

Hey, why not bring back Nick Toon while we’re at it.

When’s the last time a WR led a team to a Super Bowl?

Larry Fitzgerald was out of his fricking mind in 08 and still couldn’t get it done.

QB money on any WR is a piss poor use of resources. 18 is high but I can stomach it. 20 million a year for a WR is outrageous.

How’d the giants and the falcons do in the post season?

I’m not arguing how good mike is. I’m arguing that no WR in the history of football is worth what he’s asking.

The Saints are generously trying to make him the highest paid WR in NFL history and he’s getting greedy.

No WR is worth 20 mil a year. Especially with the young guys we have coming up to sign that are much more important to the long term sustainable success of the saints.

RBs and wrs are a dime a dozen in today’s nfl. Give me a qb, ol or dL over them all damn day.

Don’t understand why 1.5-2m difference is some kind of deal breaker.

Also:

“The two have already formed one of the league’s most efficient combinations over their three seasons together.

Thomas has the most receptions (321) and fourth-most yards (3,787) through three seasons among any wide receiver in NFL history.
Thomas’ 80.6 receiving yards per game are the fifth-most in NFL history.
Thomas’ 77% catch rate is the highest since Pro Football Reference began tracking targets in 1992 (minimum 100 targets).
Thomas is 6-foot-3 and 212 pounds of muscle. The 78th-percentile SPARQ-x athlete also boasts enough speed (4.57-second 40-yard dash) to run past plenty of corners.

Athletes as big and strong as Thomas that double as a pristine route runners don’t exactly fall off of trees. He remains an unsolved problem for defensive backs around the league.”

At 18m I can stomach it.

20 is definitely stretching me.

“Coming down to 22” as a compromise makes me want to say “let him play out his deal, go sign a John brown, cole Beasley and add even someone else(yes, I know using the bills here) and have 3 decent vets plus some young talent that doesn’t get thrown in over their head if MT rolls an ankle.

I’ve always been of this line of thinking. Until Michael Thomas proved to essentially be a 1 man wr corps last year. And an effective one at that.

Thomas is a beast.

But our success has been due to the performance of our young o line. Force Thomas to take 18 and spread the other money to the big uglies.

Without them, Brees is poo and ak41 is tackled for a loss on most downs.
