I remember when people said Brees first extension was too much. Ended up being one of the better bargains in the league.

And yes, people wanted Brees to walk as well. Its the same shite over and over because people dont want to part with money that aint even theirs to begin with

can't spend that much on a WR, don't care who you are

yes you can, and eventually you will HAVE to, to have an elite receiver....

and with Drew on the way out, not knowing how good the next QB will be, we NEED an elite WR...

all the "Drew can just make an elite WR out of the next guy" talk is foolish... he's so good at it that we haven't had a true #2 WR since Mike, which is why we've had to target him so much... and other D's KNOW this, and he STILL has set records... the dude is worth at least 20-21 per year, and trying to low ball this dude, when he's been nothing but the consummate professional and very productive since day 1, is absolutely dumb...

the man earned it with his play, he's due for a raise commiserate with what is now the going rate for an elite receiver, so pay the man... shed some bad contracts, like Armstead, or Peat, or Robinson, but pay Mike motherfrickin' Thomas his money...

The recent stats certainly back the "don't pay a WR that much" argument:

Top 5 WR as Cap Value:

2018 - Evans (TB), Fitz (Ari), Landry (Cle), Hopkins (Hou), Green (Cin) - 1 Playoff team with a rookie QB contract
2017 - Hopkins (Hou), Bryant (Dal), Fitz (Ari), Austin (LA), Jones (Atl) - 2 playoff teams, one with rookie QB contract
2016 - Jones (Atl), Fitz (Ari), Thomas (Den), Green (Cin), Bryant (Dal) - 2 playoff teams
2015 - Johnson (Det), Green (Cin), Thomas (Den), Jones (Atl), Jackson (TB) - 2 playoff teams (including SB winner)
2014 - Wallace (Mia), Johnson (Hou), Johnson (Det), Jackson (TB), Bowe (KC) - 1 playoff team

Eh when healthy Armstead’s impact dwarfs anything Thomas does for this team when it comes to winning.

Armstead missed 40% of the games the last two seasons were we went 24-8. He's only played 56% of the games the past three seasons.

There will come a point in time, likely next seasons, when our fans will realize you will have to choose to extend the likes of MT, Kamara, Lattimore etc at the expense of getting rid of Armstead.

this guy gets it... Armstead is WAY overpaid, considering how much time he misses... sorry, he just does...

sounds like you and I already realize this, whereas others will need to get it pretty soon...

Simply put, MT would be a great WRer wherever he played. But Drew and the Saints system made him what he is today. Give him 20 or let him walk!!

hmm... funny, that's its ONLY Mike that he's made an elite receiver... Tre'quan ain't nowhere close to Mike.... Kirkwood, Carr, none of them... if it's all that simple to just play with Drew and you become an elite receiver, why is it only Mike that has developed like that, under Drew?

replaceable lol?

with drew s arm dwindling he is needed more now than ever.
the people saying don't pay him over a mil have me laughing.
so y'all would let him walk at 20.5 but not at 19.5. At that point it doesn't matter and he is worth 20 mil anyway. he basically was the receiving offense this year.

they had no tight end and kamara. the offense was Mike and kamara.

Just saying Thomas isn't the ONLY receiver that brees has made look good.

Those were your words not mine.

i'm speaking specifically about the WR corp we CURRENTLY have... Thomas has been in the league 3 years... his 1st season he caught over 90 balls, over 1000 yards, and 9 TDs...

according to this board, that's all Drew... if that's the case, why didn't any other receiver have a 1st year like that? that's my point.... the argument that "just plug in a WR and Drew automatically makes them great" is ludicrous... the fact is Thomas has well earned this pay raise, and while I hate to have to commit that amount of money to a WR, he's earned it, and considering our passing game will need some continuity and stability when Drew hangs it up, it sure would go a long way to keep our elite WR in the fold for that very reason...
