Micky Loomis and Saints decide to keep Jim Hasslet after 8-8 2004 season.

Also kept Sean Payton after 7-9 the 8-8 seasons. That was 2007 & 2008.
Then again, 3 straight seasons 7-9 2014-2016.
So why would this be surprising?

Haslett at least accomplished something
He took over a team that had been abysmal under Ditka. 1st year here wins 10 games and for the first time in Saints History won a playoff game
He got a long leash because of that
Don't need to discuss Payton.

It's not surprising to see Dennis Allen retained. That's the issue. Saints need to reboot from top down. Fire Loomis and clear house under him. Find next GM then find next HC. They need to do it quickly considering roster and draft evaluation.

Bountygate sanctions were mostly in 2012 and 2nd round draft picks in 2012 and 2013 The Saints were an 11-win team in 2013.

Yep. While they often shite themselves at the end, Haslett took a franchise that had been terrible for nearly a decade (since their run in the late 80's/early 90's) and made them competitive. I think a lot of younger Saints fans don't realize just how abysmal the Saints franchise was for most of its history. 8-8, while a bit disappointing, was historically one of the better seasons for a franchise that literally did not have its first winning season until its 21st year in existence! Plus, the Saints won 4 straight to end the 2004 season

Yep. You reach the NFC Championship game a year after Katrina (something no Saints fan ever thought was possible) and win the Super Bowl 3 years later, your rope is pretty much infinite.

There is no pressure from the owner, so this is COMPLETELY Loomis's call. And I don't think Loomis is ready to give up on DA yet (assuming there will be changes to other aspects of the coaching staff)

I think what Jamies did gets him fired. The National media has been talking all day how bad the team must not respect DA. That puts pressure on Loomis

2014 offense was 9th / defense was 28th
2015 offense was 8th / defense was last
2016 offense was 2nd / defense was 31st.
we at least had good-great offenses to look forward to.

Is there possibly correlation with a team without a home base unraveling? That team was impacted one way or another by Hurricane Katrina.

That 2004 saints team finished the year extremely strong and they were playing great ball. I didnt like haslett then and probably wanted him fired but the team was playing well. If i remember the last game was against tampa and michael lewis killed it that game.

He barely got a winning season with quite possibly the most talented team in the weakest division and easiest schedule of my 40 plus years of being a Saints fan.
Spent $50 million on a quarterback that somehow could not get things together until the final three games of the year.
Yet there's a rookie quarterback with the Texans, that had no problem picking up the offense or meshing with his receivers.
It took him until about midway through the season to figure out that he probably needs to take two days to work on Red zone offense.
I was patient with Sean Payton, because he delivered right off the bat, had creative offenses and showed passion. You can tell his players respected him.

I don't remember hearing that many boos, in one season, in the Super Dome , even during the lean years.
