Marcus Maye’s three-year deal is worth $22.5 million with upside for more. Total guarantee of $14.5 million, including $6 million signing bonus. Two void years on it. $5.8 million roster bonus in 2023 that will get converted to a signing bonus for cap room.

So basically all the guarantees are in the first 2 years.

It was reported at 28 mil so this is good news.

I legit love kicking the can down the road. We've been playing with house money and pissing everyone off in the process because it has yet to truly bite us in the arse. Loomising / LooDoo

It really is.

Maye is 29 but to get him at half the price of marcus williams is a nice deal .

You are getting about 85/90% of marcus williams at a great price

Tried to tell him that the initial numbers are always BS with a ton of baked in unlikely incentives, its for the Agents because everyone just remembers the initial deal.

The details like guaranteed money, unlikely v likely incentives, roster bonus etc are what matters.

This is a good deal. Front loaded, pretty low money, and can get out of it fairly easily without a ton of pain if it doesn't work out.

Looking at OTC and see this
$6M signing bonus
2022: $1.35M base (all guaranteed)
2023: $1.35M base (all guaranteed), $5.8M roster bonus (guaranteed)
2024: $7.0M no guarantees
2025/2026: void years at $1.2M each

2022 & 2023 also has $250k per game bonuses. 2024 the per game bonus jumps to $500k.

In other words it landed in the middle at 2 year $7.25M deal

Absolute best case scenario after losing Williams. Maye is a versatile safety that can cover and play the run. Great signing and very favorable contract.

But, Rand will be here in a few to tell us we are all wrong, this deal is stupid, money should only be spent on offense, etc.

Maye is a comparable safety to Williams in skillset, with Maye being a much better tackler and Williams being a better center fielder. Perhaps Allen liked the idea of getting a safety that provided more toughness.

Its definitely more of we knew we could get a very talented guy at substantially less cost because he is coming off of a major injury and possible suspension.

Gamble, but could pay huge dividends, and we need to do things like that when we have cap issues.
