Pushing 7.5 million back knowing you are going to get traded.

Why would he agree to push his money back?

Here's how this works, logistically—the $7.5 million roster bonus was to be "earned" on Friday (now Tuesday). It's not paid until April 15. But whoever's roster Ryan is on for the "earned" date is responsible for it.

So Ryan gets his money on time. Matter of which team pays it.

No team is taking his cap hit and then paying him an extra 7.5 million to help the Falcons.

Yah I still don't understand why Ryan would agree to do this.

Read my post further up. He gets paid on 4/15, not today...so delaying it a few days doesn't matter.

Whichever team he is on in a few days will pay it on 4/15.

This is the part that confuses me, I think you’re correct, but isn’t Ryan’s dead cap enormous regardless? I think it shrinks nearly in half if they wait to trade him or release him in June, but that’s not going to happen.

Do they even gain anything cap wise by trading him? Not to mention I’m not sure if they would have to take on salary from another team?

He’s going to eat up a large percentage of their cap regardless of what they do with them.

Yeah but the Falcons are completely disrespecting him. Why is he helping them?

Not say for good reason but saints falcons panthers and browns basically showed their QB’s we don’t “want” you.

So I’m sure Ryan is “ok” with moving on, so makes no difference helping them. They probably told him, help us and we will give you more say in who we trade you too.

Uhhh he has total and complete say in who they trade him to, as he has a no trade clause. He holds all the power.

Now if he forces their hand to cut him what’s his signing bonus going to look like?

I don’t foresee any team trading for him and taking the cap hit. I don’t see how it benefits Matt Ryan at all. He could potentially lose that money if they cut him before Tuesday. Also as a player why give them time to try to make a trade. Make them make the decision to cut you and you can pick your next team yourself. Unless he really wants to stay with the falcons and is holding out hope that they don’t get Deshaun.

If they cut him, I'd sign him immediately.
