Saints released LB Michael Mauti. Mauti appeared in 11 games with the Saints last year, but played just 62 defensive snaps. He should resurface in a special teams role.
Wonder if the potential changes to kickoffs had anything to do with it.

Kind of odd. I don't think he's even stepped on the practice field yet this year.

I'd guess it has more to do with the LB depth and they like a few LB prospects they'd rather keep around and develop over a 28 year old career special teamer.

Plus it could be a favor to him or he might have asked to be released. Much easier to catch on with a different team now than if he is cut later

He’s like Bryce Harris. Ain’t nobody rushing to claim him. If we need him, he’ll be there.

He will be back at some point

Was a nice story even if he never gets another rep. Good luck

Thankful he laid the smack down on Cam.

In other moves, the Saints waived offensive lineman John Theus off injured reserve and signed in drafted free agent wideout Eldridge Massington out of UCLA, per the league transaction wire.
Massington (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) caught nine passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games as a fifth-year senior in 2017. His college career numbers consisted of 65 receptions for 883 yards and five touchdowns over four seasons.

quote:Living in Los Angeles I get to watch all of the UCLA games. This guy was someone I really thought was going to be a player. He was highly recruited, has good size and good speed, but he just kind of fizzled out. not sure what happened to him, but there's some talent there.

They know what he can do and if injuries hit or Saints need a special teams guy, they know he will be on standby.

Like Bumerang (Buford) Jordan expect to see Mauti in his Black and Gold some time this season.

Saints re-sign offensive lineman Josh LeRibeus. LINK
In 2017, the New Orleans Saints' offensive line emerged as one of the best in all of the National Football League. During the week, the Saints took a step to make sure things stay that way.
According to a report by Joel Erickson of The New Orleans Advocate, the Saints re-signed offensive lineman Josh LeRibeus on Monday. LeRibeus had joined the Saints in 2017 after spending the first several years of his career with the Washington Redskins. He had signed a futures contract with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2017 offseason, but was released well before training camp.
With the Saints, LeRibeus played in all sixteen games in 2017 primarily as the sixth offensive lineman in the team's "jumbo" package. However, he also saw time playing guard due to injuries to the Saints' line. LeRibeus can also play center. In all, LeRibeus played 218 total snaps during the season.
In their run to the NFC South title, the Saints became a much more physical team during the 2017 season, in large part thanks to the emergence of their offensive line, which neutralized opposing pass rushes and cleared gaping holes for running backs Mark Ingram and offensive rookie of the year Alvin Kamara. In all, the Saints' offensive line allowed the second-fewest sacks in the league and also helped the Saints rank second in yards per carry.
LeRibeus' future with the Saints, however, is not guaranteed. Erickson states in his report that LeRibeus will likely have to compete for a roster spot with Saints seventh-round draft pick Will Clapp, as well as other players like Cameron Tom, John Fullington, and Landon Turner.
A native of Houston, Texas, LeRibeus was drafted in the third round by the Redskins in 2012, and played in five games during his rookie year. But in 2013, after showing up to training camp 30 pounds overweight and out of football shape, LeRibeus was listed as inactive for the entire season. He would stick with the Redskins until the end of the 2016 season, at which point he briefly joined the Eagles.
The re-signing of LeRibeus helps with continuity for the Saints, as they will enter the 2018 not being in the same situation on offense that they enjoyed throughout the 2017 season. With Ingram being suspended for the first four games of the season due to a violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, the Saints offensive line will have to block for other running backs to compliment Kamara, their scatback.
