I think it’s a mental thing for Brees as well. He probably doesn’t think he can do it consistently because he probably can’t.

So why are we almost never throwing the ball 30+ yards downfield? We know he can do it well enough to keep a defense honest, he just doesn't do it enough.
Hopefully it’s a preservation tactic. Get by until late in the season and then open up the playbook as opposed to the opposite.

Playcalling has been my biggest beef. We choose not to go downfield.

If he has time to step up in the pocket he can’t still get it down field. If he’s back peddling he can get it about 15 yards

It’s definitely at least partially mental. There’s been some times that the deep routes were open and he didn’t pull the trigger. Hopefully he starts to believe he can throw it down the field a little
