Sometimes you need a T to get your point across.

The Jets probably didn't care about his point because they were celebrating the win 5 plays later.
But at least it rallied the team, oh wait we lost the next game too.

I went to the Carolina Saints game that year at the Superdome.

It was a few weeks after that game against the Jets it was the same one where when we did a flea flicker the back judge who I think was Phil Luckett got Joe horns way of a sure touchdown.

Anyway they did some commercial it might have been a Popeyes commercial that was making light of what turley did.

After it was over they did a close up of him standing in the huddle with him looking up at the big screen.

We all thought it was funny at that time.

But I can remember being pretty pissed off that we lost that game to the Jets. I was pissed that the Jets guy didn't get tossed.

Pretty sure he was only on the hook for the 15 yard facemask.

The saints were brutal down the stretch that year.

We had gotten off to a good start but it just went downhill real fast and then the last game of the season the Redskins beat the hell out of us at home I think.

I was at that game too... and you are correct... that was Phil Luckett

Horn was WIDE OPEN and he crashed into Luckett basically at the goal line

Ball seemed like it was perfectly thrown too... so it would've been a sure fire TD

ETA: Luckett was the referee in charge of the Jerome Bettis OT coin flip call fiasco on Thanksgiving Day a few years prior

Had lost or given up the white hat and was no longer a head referee when Horn crashed into him that day

Anyone remember that Kyle Turley was a multiple time all-pro?

Him and Roaf should have been a dominant tackle duo for years

The year before that in 2000, the offensive line was the one part of the offense that stayed intact all season.

Ricky Williams got hurt about halfway through the season.

Then Jeff Blake went down against the Raiders.

And then Joe horn hurt his ankle at the beginning of the playoff game to the Rams.

I know it was basically defense that carried us for most of the season but the offense was able to still do well enough and it was because we had a pretty damn good offensive line like you're talking about started with the two outstanding tackles.

At the time I was much younger and loved it. Nowadays I'd shrug my shoulders and maybe chuckle.

I mean, in the Dome the fans of course cheered/jeered and loved Turley defending the QB

it was fun - guy was not going to let that go!!

in retrospect - stupid and cost the team. but still funny

New York Giants did a similar thing to Aaron Brooks

It’s in Sports Illustrated best 60 NFL pics of all time.

Twisted his head around and backwards

I was mad at turley, it cost us the game. So yeah, he was retaliating. That never works out in this league.

Everyone around me was yelling frick yeah. I immediately yelled nooooo bc I knew the penalty coming was going to cost us the game. Was so pissed.

After hearing Turleys side of it and how he explained the gurgling agonizing scream from Brooks is what triggered him, then I understood his reaction.

I vaguely remember this when his helmet got completely rotated. Is that correct, or am I just imagining that image?

Yeah. His face was inside the back of the helmet almost. Had the helmet not slide around his head he could of been seriously injured. His back was the main issue I believe. He was being bent backwards bc his legs were pinned.

Was watching the game with my dad and a few buddies from college. He was pissed while the rest of us were jumping around thinking it was the coolest thing ever.

Then we realized it lost us the game.

FFS you could have just watched the play and understood his side. I’m still glad he did it.

I was literally talking about this play today to a buddy. We were talking about Shockley and for some reason my thought went to this play.

I was like 12 and we had tickets on the 15 yard line about 10 rows up right where it happened… was amazing to watch. 2nd most memorable saints moment live for me other than the Hakeem dropped the ball play

Kyle Turkey was a loser and that stupid helmet toss lost the game.

If you disagree, you’re wrong.
