So 6.5m in year 1 assuming signing bonus and whatnot.
What the frick. I rather vaccaro if it's 3/18
He's gonna be 30 to start the year BTW.
ETA: Yes he was injured last year with a sprained MCL. Played SS decently well in 2016, even though it wasn't close to his 2015 play, it was still above average. Meh, luxury IMHO but not many good safety in FA.

Should have read futher. $6.5 mil is a good chunk, but sometimes these reports don't state things properly.
It could be $6.5 mil signing bonus and year one salary combined, meaning potentially only $2.5-3.5 mil on the cap this year (whatever the bonus is ÷ by 3 + base salary).
The up to $18 mil also seems to point to the first year not being a $6.5 mil hit.

Oh my fricking god... We have an unbelievable offseason last year and then do this??? Why the frick did they choose him over vaccaro

20-30 Mill less. Vaccaro is gonna try and make a lot of money this offseason. And we didn’t want to pay it.

I'll give the FO the benefit of the doubt this year. They deserve it after the last 2 years. I'm not expecting them to hit on every free agent, but I think they'll do a solid job overall.
Not many people were high on the signings of Ginn & Te'o last year. They ended up being 2 of the best bargain contracts on the team. They also hit on Okafor, Warford, & Klein.
Fairley was the only miss last year in free agency & most people on here were sold on him the most. Technically, that was more bad luck than a miss though. I would say AP as well, but we got a draft pick for him.

Weird contract. Definitely thought this was a camp body signing. We will see.

He’s way better than Vaccaro. Lol at people that think he’s a backup.

He had an absolutely horrendous year last year. Hopefully that was more due to other factors than him just falling off.

Played hurt last year. But he is a good tackler & has ball skills. He’s a solid player that is an upgrade over Bell & Vaccaro.

6.5 is a lot of cash for a dude who's just ok and is already in his 30s.

That does look odd, b/c Loomis never does contracts like that.

This makes much more sense. Hopefully you're right. 2.5-3.5 mil isn't bad at all.
If last years bad play was caused by injury, & he returns to his 2015/2016 form...this is a damn good signing imo.

No it’s not. And he’s not in his 30’s yet.

I'm still waiting for the entire contract details to come out.
That doesn't seem like the kind of contract that Loomis would do.
Bonethug edited his post above & that makes much more sense imo.

Here we go, it starts...
So now it looks like we have two safeties who can actually play the pass well between him and Williams. We needed a guy who was a little older to mentor and lead our young secondary. Really like this move.

I’m for this. I trust the staff and ready to move on from Kenny. Solid vet, should provide good leadership

Just to give a similar comparison...AJ Klein signed a three year, $15 million contract with the Saints. Klein received a $4 million signing bonus and $9.4 million guaranteed. The final year of the contract is a void season for proration purposes. LINK
2017 cap # - 2.8 mil
2018 cap # - 5.2 mil
2019 cap # - 6.0 mil...2.0 mil in dead money if cut in 2019.
Klein was 25 when he signed his deal, & Coleman is about to turn 30...so I'm sure that will factor into how they do the contract.
Apparently, Coleman's deal is 3 years for 18 mil. I have a hard time believing that 6.5 mil will be the cap # for 2018. Likely somewhere between 3.0-3.5 mil if I had to guess.

I'll ask the dumb question. How is it allowed to talk and make deals before FA starts?

He was cut by the Panthers about 5 days ago.
