You have no idea how special Jim Henderson is to us old timers. Back in the day we were forced to listen to Saint games on the radio because the games were blacked out locally. He so eloquently called games that he made it seem like you had a front row seat inside the Dome. So go play in traffic you fricktard

yep. all we had those days was radio for saints, LSU baseball and basketball and plenty LSU football we had to use radio when not many were televised.

Who said he's a legend?? If they are claiming this, they're wrong.

Henderson is great. Very professional.

I liked him and Archie best. Stan Brock was good too.

Hokie was kinda meh. Don't know about Deuce because i haven't really heard much of him yet.

I'm hopeful though because Deuce is one of my all time favorite Saints.

Deuce has good info and good insight, but his delivery is choppy. I think, given time, JH will make Deuce better, as he made Hokie better. By the (sad) end of the JH/HG team, they were smooth and polished (IMHO).

I'm not ripping on Henderson or anything, all I'm saying is that he was just an alright sportscaster, nothing special. He's no legend in my book. Deuce on the other hand as the other poster said needs work on his delivery, speech and such.

I hate to see what you thought of JIM HAWTHORNE if you though Jim Henderson was ONLY alright. jesus man.

I can only hope you would say hawthorne was the worst announcer ever if henderson is only "alright" in your book. and i grew up with hawthorne and was a great tiger but he was GOD AWFUL and could not hold hendersons microphone.

If you're a Henderson nut more power to you. I just don't get the fuss, that is your opinion and others like myself have another opinion, that's all.

If this is devolving into a Henderson vs Hawthorne debate there's no comparison Henderson is world's better.

Was Buddy D a legend?

Were only simple minded La fools like us enamored of him?

Becasue his death was anounced over the AP wire....

quote:

Bernard Diliberto, sports commentator in New Orleans By Associated Press | January 15, 2005 NEW ORLEANS -- Bernard ''Buddy" Diliberto, a New Orleans sports commentator who originated the tradition of fans wearing bags on their heads to lament losing teams, died Jan. 7 at his home in Metairie, said his son, Mike Diliberto. He was 73 and suffered a heart attack, his son said. Mr. Diliberto's career included stints at The Times-Picayune of New Orleans and at two New Orleans television stations before switching over to WWL-AM, where he was a commentator and sports talk show host. His shows focused mostly on the Saints and he became famous for his banter with callers and his blistering criticism of players, coaches, and front-office executives. Mr. Diliberto amused listeners with his wit, such as referring to former Saints quarterback Kenny ''The Snake" Stabler as ''Steak Snabler," and calling Saints receiver Donte Stallworth ''Donte Stallpepper." He also originated the bags that Saints fans often wear during losing streaks. Another time, during a Saints' dry spell, he did his sports report standing in front of a cemetery, suggesting that the Saints played like cadavers.

Wayne "and away we go on the radio" Mack, and Danny "stronger than a garlic milkshake" Abramowitz were the best.

Why they were " tougher than a two dollar steak!"

Most folks want a special song played at their funeral. I want HAKIM DROPS THE BALL played at mine.

Jim's definitely a local legend... b/c almost every New Orleanian knows his voice and as soon as his name his said they can hear him yelling "HAKIM DROPPED THE BALL" or "PIGS HAVE FLOWN, HELL HAS FROZEN OVER, THE SAINTS ARE ON THEIR WAY TO THE SUPER BOWL"

or even better...

"IT'S PICKED! IT'S PICKED! IT'S TRACY PORTER AGAIN! HE'S RUNNING FREE! HE'S GOING TO GO ALL THE WAY!"

ETA: plus his Monday evening commentaries on the games were just must see TV

JH is a far better PBP man than Summerall ever was

IMHO he's also better than Jackson, although KJ is so associated w/the rise of CFB on TV that I'll give him legend status

Seems that only Saints fans say he js great. As a non-Saints fan I say his voice is very average.
