They list lutz, Thomas, and trequan as the others. If all 5 moves are made at the optimal time, where's that put us against the cap?

Jameis should have never been signed after Brees left so his exodus from the team is 2 years past due.

The only thing people say positive about TreQuan is that he blocks good. He won't be missed. Always hurt too.

Kicker can definitely be upgraded but you could do a lot worse than Lutz. He is in a 4 year linear regression in FG% so that obviously needs to be considered.

It’s kind of in the article, just need to do the math. Article assume saints are $53-57M over.
Jamies: $4.4M if cut now, $12.8 post 6/1
Peat: $1.4M if cut now, $11.8 post 6/1
Lutz: $3.7M if cut now, $3.7 post 6/1
Tre’Quan: $1.9M if cut now, $2.9 post 6/1
MT: $13M if cut now, $1.2M post 6/1

So you cut MT, Tre’Quan & Lutz now, and designate Peat & Winston as post 6/01. That saves $43.2M against the 2023 cap; but also puts about $19.2M of dead money on 2024 cap. Loomis will still need to move $10-14M to be compliant, and even more to fill the roster and sign rookies

Horrible cap and contract management. We knew Peat was a disaster front office ego driven extension.

Peat: Post June 1 Cut/Trade
11.825mil saved (6.546mil dead)
- Pay cut option

Thomas: Post June 1 Cut/Trade
1.165mil saved (11.993mil dead)
- This has to be done or it'll affect us in 2024

Lutz: June 1 Cut/Trade
3.7mil saved (1.92mil dead)
- This is a pay cut option

Smith: June 1 Cut
1.9mil saved (1.5mil dead)
- this is more likely to just stay as is, you gonna replace him with 1.9mil?

But in general:
Peat & Thomas June 1 Cut puts us at 45mil over the cap

We'd need to do:
Lattimore restructure: saves 10mil
Ramczyk restructure: saves 10mil
McCoy restructure: saves 8mil
- these 3 are most likely to occur since they're young building blocks.

Jordan restructure: saves 10mil
Kamara restructure: saves 7.5mil
Winston june 1 cut: saves 12.8mil (2.8mil dead)
Hill restructure: saves 7mil
Davis restructure: saves 6mil
- Do these 5 are we actually have 25mil to spend

I think Lutz is safe for one more season but there will be serious competition brought in to push him.

I also can't wait for Peat to not be on this team anymore.

MT13 has to have some trade value to some team who thinks they are a piece away. Ravens or someone who is trying to prop up their QB like Russel Wilson or someone.

Dude is gone they didn't want him back this year.

No one is trading for MT and having to take on that contract. Just wait till he is released and save money.

Jordan restructure: saves 10mil
Kamara restructure: saves 7.5mil
Hill restructure: saves 7mil
Davis restructure: saves 6mil

Do these contracts as written prohibit these guys for trade value?

Cause we need picks. I love these guys but we are in a rebuild.

if he wants to stay and retire a saint, financially its not too bad to do so

Kamara restructure: saves 7.5mil

Better to trade post june 1 (saves 10mil) dead money is about 5mil.

quote:

Hill restructure: saves 7mil

Also a post june 1 trade/cut, prior costs us $

Davis is also a post june 1 trade/cut

I don't think the month as important as the roster spot. Let's see what we've got with younger guys

I'm of the opinion that you let deals on older guys run... If you have to cut them later, you're not eating as much dead cap space on down the road

MT has ZERO!!!!!! trade value I can’t believe people still think they can play fantasy GM and get a good draft pick just because the player was good once upon a time. You are trading the contract as much as the player and his is one of the worst in football. Add that with he hasn’t played in 3 years and he’s a 30 year old injury plagued diva WR and what you get in trade is nothing. Releasing him is your ONLY option.

Agreed. For years, we've pushed money down the road (i.e. borrowing next years cap to pay for this year) and its time to just recoup and build up the credit again.

Push back what you need to (i.e. young guys you intend on keeping and building around) and get under the cap. Let the older guys (Cam, Davis) dictate their intent and if they intend on staying than keep them as is. If they wanna be moved, trade them for relief.

The question marks I think are guys like AK who you really could get value from them and not lose that premium of a player.

Slant boy has no trade value. Not only is he overpaid he is not what he used to be production wise. Hasn't played in essentially 3 years. Even if healthy I don't thing he can be close to what he was in 2019.

MT13 has to have some trade value

Let's assume teams overlook the injury, and potential tantrum, situations over the past few years and want to give him value based on 2019 and potential. Even in that scenario, MT has absolutely no trade value for 2023 draft picks, and I am sure his agent made sure to structure the contract that way. MT will either be cut by the beginning of March, or he'll be on the team in 2023.

If they keep him on the team, his 2023 cap hit is $13.4M, $14.2M in 2024, and $6.2M in dead money for 2025.

If they cut him and designate him a post 6/01, the 2023 cap hit is $12M and $14.1M in 2024

If they trade him for draft picks his 2023 cap hit will be $26.2M.

Above numbers are from piecing together info from OTC & sporttrac. Since it appears the value would be the same, there is an argument to keep him on the team for 2023 and try to showcase him before the trade deadline and get picks for 2024.
