This is a tough but necessary part of the business. Those guys were important parts of the team in their day but are not worth the $$ they would have received this year.

Thanks guys, and Who Dat!

I hope these guys have been smart with their money. They were well compensated for what they did and if they manage things right they should be set for life.

Yea...but a happy idiot! I appreciate what they did but don't forget...they also were compensated very nicely for their contributions.

Harper was kept this year due to his contract situation...NOT because he added value to the position. Like I said, he's a nice guy but an area which was in need of improvement.

He just wanted to blitz every play because he can't cover.

Regarding Ingram...get something while you can. We have enough RBs and he's expendable. It's great to have depth but we attempted to play too many RBs this season and it screwed up our rhythm. The offense flowed better before he returned from his injury. Pull the trigger and get another draft pick.

We're close but need a few upgrades. Hate to see Greer leave but Smith & Vilma were inevitable and the staff knew it was time to cut bait with Roman.

These guys all contributed to the golden age, and I hope they do well.
I especially hope Greer sticks around the city if he doesn't get picked up.

But I'm glad Payton is doing the difficult thing and cutting the fat.

I didn't see that coming. I hope he is able to stick around in some capacity.

None of these are a surprise.

I'm sorry but Roman Harper will not be considered a legend. He was a serviceable player that helped to win a Super Bowl. I think Sammy Knight was a better player for the Saints than Harper was.

Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, Rod Woodson etc. are legends.

Sad to see them go.

I know the bad rap Harper around here gets but I would've liked to see him finish his career as a saint and playing for only one team. A player from Sean Payton's first draft sticking with the team for his whole career. It was just unfortunate to see his level of play decline in recent years. He was damn good his rookie season.

Vilma's first season with us was awesome in how he never missed a play and played every snap the whole season.

Not surprised by any of these moves. Smith was a no brainer and Greer had too many factors working against him. Harper is a little bit of a wonder because he saves so little($2.1 unless designated a June 1st cut).

It'll be hard(but not impossible) to find someone of his level or better for that price. We could get another Hawthorne(middle of the pack), another Lewis(absolute steal), or another Franklin(complete bust).

A legend in the sense that people will always remember that guy who looked 60 who couldn't cover but could blitz like a beast. Oh, and that dude that let Sam Bradford run him down from behind.

Oh, and a Saints fan since '86 in case you pull that card.

Greer said he wondered about his legacy would be. Said he suddenly saw it while walking w/ his son to the store; his legacy is his family

Greer is about 33 (old). Game relies mainly on speed and he's coming off of a major injury. He had to go (or take a pay cut to stay in the locker room). Hate to say it. This might buy Patrick Robinson some more play time. We will likely draft another corner too to help out Varcaro. I just hope we doint see any of these guys with Lovie Smith and the Bucs.

THANKS FOR THE GOOD TIMES SMITH, GREER, HARPER, AND VILMA. WHO DAT NATION FOR LIFE.

Colston and Evans are the only guys left that fit that description.

...longest tenured Saint is Lance Moore...livin the dream on the practice squad before Payton got here.

Greer is the hardest to deal with since if he doesnt have that injury he is probably still on the team. We had to release him cause of a freak injury, not because he lost it.
