Is Dennis Allen a head coach next year?

Some people on here love to bash Dennis Allen but this defense has consistently been at the top of the NFL the last 3 years. They always start somewhat slow but it’s not defensive play calling. When their defense struggles it’s always execution. That being said, I would be shocked if he doesn’t get a head coaching job next year. I really hope the saints are able to keep him longer but it’s hard to keep producing like this and not have somebody take a chance.

Yeah, someone will give him another chance. Not sure if it will be this year, but he has proven to be a good D coordinator here and Denver and has been a HC before.

I'd think he'd have to go the Pete Carroll route (failed in N.E., then shows he can run/turn USC into a dominant program again, then is given another NFL shot in Seattle) before he was given another HC shot.

I think he will eventually get another shot, just not next year. Not sure what openings there will be, but I also question if he would want to go to any of the obvious/more likely locations (Jets, Texans, Jags, Wash). I think Morris has the interm tag removed next year in Atl.

I believe Allen's next HC job will be wherever Ireland lands next.

this ^^^^

and every year even with zero turnover or adding any new players, his team will lose 4 of the first 6 games because they arent ready to play

I don’t know. Second chance guys are typically overlooked. Defensive guys are usually less en vogue than offensive guys (except for ESPN darling Robert Saleh). He’ll get interviews, and maybe even an offer. But I have a feeling it would be from a dumpster fire team, and I have a feeling he won’t make that mistake again.

Agreed; but I think he will still get a shot somewhere at some point.

If he had gone somewhere else as a DC and had similar success, I'd say yes (might have already been given that shot again by now). I think a lot of his success is attributed to Sean Payton and the Saints front office for loading the team with talent. Also he's had a lot of good assistant coaches recently. Not saying that he doesn't get/deserve the credit for some of those choices, but it's a factor that a lot of GMs/owners look at.

If you think about it he went right back to New Orleans after getting fired from Oakland, which shows his comfort with another system that he did not build. If he was to get a HC gig somewhere else, it would be with a bad team that would likely have to be rebuilt from the ground up - he didn't do a great job with that in Oakland.

This is also assuming he wants another shot at head coach. A lot of guys who get promoted to the head job and fired are perfectly content with staying DCs for the rest of their careers.

Lol no. The defense is playing well but I would not trust him or his defense in crunch time.

Spags will be hired as an HC before Allen.
