re: Is anyone else put off by Drew's disappointed, sad guy bit?

Football players are voluntarily working (where they can get injured) in the NFL because of the high pay outs. Without the huge pay, most players would not be playing. You are right. I can't compare it to my job but they know there are risks of getting hurt. If they can't play football because of a knee injury or something else, they can still go get a job doing something else to earn money. And disability does not equal the same thing. If they suffer a career ending injury they will never be able to play again because they can't perform. Unless you are paralyzed or some freak accident in the real world you can always perform in some capacity and still do your job thus earn your money. Say a CEO (makes 5mil a year)of a huge construction company suffers an injury on a construction site. Unless it is extremely bad he can still perform his job and earn his money. If a starting quarterback getting paid 20 million a year suffers an injury and can't play again, how is he earning his money? He can still do other things to earn his money besides the NFL. They know it's the price of playing in the NFL and getting huge paychecks. I'm sure NFL players have insurance policies for career ending injuries if they are smart.
I'm as big of a Saints fan as they come. I have had season tickets for 15+ years and go to all the home games and some of the away games and I'm a big fan of Brees and what the "team" has done for the city but I can't relate to some of the things professional athletes demand.
frick that. These owners know what they're getting into also. It's risk reward on both ends. Drew has been healthy for 6 years now and has more than made the Saints their money back. Also, you put team in quotes but without Drew where would the "team" be today?

Drew is pissing me off. I realize that he is great and that we would still be the pissant Saints if it weren't for him. BUT at what point is it just greed? Haven't we been through enough these past months?! Sheesh! Get it over with already!
Your anger is misguided. Actually, you shouldn't be angry at all. It isn't healthy.
I think a big part of the problem for me is that I assumed it was a foregone conclusion that this would get done quickly and without problem. Now that it hasn't, it is getting frustrating to me, mostly, because I don't know the details and don't know who to be mad at.

is that I assumed
the other assumption was that Drew doesn't care about the money that much and would pretty much take whatever cause he's such a great guy. Not you but in general.

Well said.

I'll admit, I was a bit naive to think this in a way. I wasn't stupid enough to think he would take under market, but I felt around Manning/Brady, but well above Vick would have been a fair number. Now, I don't know what was offered or whats being asked, but I just didn't see it this much of a clusterfrick.

Isn't the hold up presumed to be guaranteed money? I just don't get why that's a problem. You minimize guaranteed money to make it easier to cut a guy after 3 years. Should the Saints really be approaching this contract assuming Brees isn't going to be the starting QB 4 years from now? Bet big on Brees and plan to rebuild when he's done.

Why aren't you pissed at the front office again?

This. I wish we knew the details but we will never see those real numbers until a deal is made.

Alright Paddy.
FWIW.
No shite sherlock
He knew it...WWL knew it...the Saints FO knew it and his agent knew it.
Posturing in negotiations should not be a revelation to anyone over 12.
Rub some dirt on it and wrap it in duct tape.
Don't mean sh#t. He's point was that no one knows the real numbers both camps are using.
Until we do its all just meaningless speculation unless J Clayton is your oracle of truth.
I think a million is 'fair' but I'm not setting the market price.

If we wouldn't have gotten Brees, maybe Tony Romo would have gotten us to the superbowl. Sean Payton did coach with Romo.
Or maybe Farve...

Bingo. I'm appalled that Loomis isn't calling him everyday just to ask how the kids are doing or some shite. But I get the business side of it and no one wants to tip their hand right now. Just send a fricking text, email, postcard....... something to the guy.
It sounds like Loomis has said this is the best deal we can offer, call me when your ready to sign. The only thing on Loomis's side is time and Drew having to sit out a year! Being an arse and not negotiating in earnest is only gonna piss DB of and force a sit out.

Goats, your words are hurtful. I'm taking the bus, and you will not see me at the pancake social tomorrow.

frick DREW BREES, yea i said it. after seeing how he's been nothing but a bitch about everything, frick him.
If you want the $23 mill/year...then stop losing to sub par teams(yes, i put the saints above the 69ers and the seagulls). you want that $23 mill drew? then stop bitching and get another SB and you will get what you want. THis business is "what hve you done for me lately" and drew hasn't done anything.

Really doesn't matter what people think, I said my .02. In the end, it's up to benson and obviously he doesn't feel that drew deserves the 23 mill. If so, he would have done it by now. I mean shite, he just bought a $330 mill MBA team.
Era: and for anyone who says salary cap.....come up with something better.
