I want Brees to be signed but I can't side all the way with Brees here either. It's a business and there has to be some give and take on both sides. I wish we knew the specifics on what was offered last year and this year.
And I know Brees is looking for as much money up front as he can but I don't see eye to eye with players on this one. If you get hurt say 8 games into his first season of the contract, why should they get 40-50% of the money of their total contract when you can't perform. In real life, if you can't perform on your job you have to get another job where you can do it. I don't understand the mentality of getting paid when you can't do your job.

I have always always always wondered this.
It really sucks for the organization to have to shell out money on the front in for the player, in case he gets hurt and cant play. Just blows man.

Quit comparing starting top tier talent to your job please.
If they didn't offer partial guaranteed contracts, players would laugh and not sign them, thus creating a work stoppage.

You're right, it is a business and Drew treating it as such right now just like the Saints' front office.

Nothing about what Drew does translates in to the "real world" as you put it. If you get hurt on your job(assuming you have a normal job and are not a crab fisherman or some shite) and it's due to the normal job requirements you can collect disability and your employer will take on the costs of your medical bills unless he/she wants to be sued.

I understand what Patty Cakes is getting at but in turn, you know us fans always bitch when we get puff pieces. We yearn for honesty and I think that's what we got. I get too tired of all the cliches drew puts out there and finally we got to see a bit of real emotions from him being honest about the situation.
He's human, its hard for him not to be bothered at this point and time. For him to say everything is dandy and he isn't bothered at all would be bullshite. I don't know if its tactical or what. It was nice to finally hear Drew talk after all this time of events that's happened. Maybe this lights a spark somehow somewhere, who knows. It's obvious that Mickey and Drew are a bit apart and there's going to have to be some give and take to close this thing on both sides.
Also, maybe it'll be a positive thing for Drew to get some emotion off of his chest just a little bit as a coping mechanism in dealing with this. In any case, one thing was clear. This situation is wearing on him and the sooner we get this done even if we spend a bit more than we wanted, it'll be worth it to protect our team and our qb moving forward from any emotion deterioration.

Thats the key. Player contracts are never fully guaranteed. They want to get the guaranteed money maxed out. The rest of the contract isn't guaranteed. They can be cut and never see a dime of the rest.

Its completely rational too. I'd be waaaay more pissed, because he could have been a dick 2-3 years ago, held out for more money, and most people wouldn't have begrudged him for it. He went about this the right way, and now its a clusterfrick.

I know this isn't even close to comparable, but its wearing on me too, as I'm sure it is most fans. We see all the negative stuff in the press, every day. We are starving for something positive. I know it isn't as simple as "pay the man", but Drew has done everything the right way for the last 6 years and shouldn't be treated as someone who complains about their contract every year, ie Revis, Osi. The biggest problem for me is when he said there is no communication. I would expect them to talk in some way, every day.

When lines are drawn in the sand... communication is not always the best of ideas.

Bingo. I'm appalled that Loomis isn't calling him everyday just to ask how the kids are doing or some shite. But I get the business side of it and no one wants to tip their hand right now. Just send a fricking text, email, postcard....... something to the guy.

I understand. I just get the sense that the front office is waiting until the last minute to push. It seems as they have made their offer, and now they are going to wait until drop-dead day (I think its mid-July as to when franchised players can't negotiate for a long term deal).
If so, I would feel like Drew does and would act appropriately ('accordingly' would have been a better word to use).

I would say that it appears the Saints are allowing their leverage to play itself out in some ways.

I thought our source at the airport said that this was all a ploy so that Drew could stay in touch with Sean Payton.

Yeah. Someone ran into Roman Harper, who was at the airport getting ice cream. Harper gave him the "scoop".

Thats bullshite and doesn't even make sense.
ETA: You think the front office would be ok with Drew throwing them under the bus yesterday if that was the case? I doubt it. I doubt Drew would be ok with it, especially with what has been going in this offseason. And don't give me "it was an act" crap.

My aunt's best friend's oldest daughter is an uptown girl and has become friends with Brittany over the past few years. She said Mickey Loomis is a fricking a-hole and he can lick her bloody count.

Football players are voluntarily working (where they can get injured) in the NFL because of the high pay outs. Without the huge pay, most players would not be playing. You are right. I can't compare it to my job but they know there are risks of getting hurt. If they can't play football because of a knee injury or something else, they can still go get a job doing something else to earn money. And disability does not equal the same thing. If they suffer a career ending injury they will never be able to play again because they can't perform. Unless you are paralyzed or some freak accident in the real world you can always perform in some capacity and still do your job thus earn your money. Say a CEO (makes 5mil a year)of a huge construction company suffers an injury on a construction site. Unless it is extremely bad he can still perform his job and earn his money. If a starting quarterback getting paid 20 million a year suffers an injury and can't play again, how is he earning his money? He can still do other things to earn his money besides the NFL. They know it's the price of playing in the NFL and getting huge paychecks. I'm sure NFL players have insurance policies for career ending injuries if they are smart.
I'm as big of a Saints fan as they come. I have had season tickets for 15+ years and go to all the home games and some of the away games and I'm a big fan of Brees and what the "team" has done for the city but I can't relate to some of the things professional athletes demand.

Doesn't tom Brady sign below market deals on the reg with NE? It seems like Peyton (and maybe now Drew) is more cold blooded about squeezing every last cent they can - even at the detriment of their surrounding cast.

Drew is pissing me off. I realize that he is great and that we would still be the pissant Saints if it weren't for him. BUT at what point is it just greed? Haven't we been through enough these past months?! Sheesh! Get it over with already!
