you are absolutely right another team would pay more for him. But what I don't want is the Saints to over pay and then him get hurt and the 2012 Saints be the 2011 Colts. When you pay that kind of money you have to be cap smart which is what I believe Loomis is and always has been doing.

Its a QB driven league, and the Colts lucked into one of the better QB prospects of our generation. If Luck didn't come out this draft, they re-up with Peyton.

Is the 23m per year the number that Drew is looking for?

With a salary cap, the bigger slice that goes to Drew, must mean that there is less for others, no?

How does 23m compare to Colston, Evans, Sproles, Thomas, ect.?

You're right. It may not work. But it might could. My biggest problem with this league is that when most (not all) players get paid they don't try or always seem to get hurt. Drives me nuts.

Not saying Drew wouldn't try. It's not in his nature to not go at it 110%. But with his history of injuries I have to give the Saints some slack on this. They have to be smart. Yes Drew brought us from the cellar but over pay or make a bad cap move and we will be in the cellar again.

Pay him. Make him the #1 QB. But don't over pay. Don't front load the hell out ot it.

I am pretty sure that's what is holding them up.

You see it all the time in other areas of life though. People date complete nut jobs because they are hot. You have to deal with shitty downtimes (injuries) because the great times are so awesome.

Sorry, I was ranting about the players, not a personal attack against you.

Now would be the time to front load it. We've got the pieces in place this year and next, assuming Drew stays healthy.

I would be glad to join you on that endangered species list

So much posturing and hard opinions when no one knows the facts or figures that the two sides have been throwing at each other. We will see.

Seriously.

This thread is retardedly contentious considering that we know nothing about the actual numbers.
Clayton doesn't know anything.

This too.

I bet most of us agree, but just have different info (which I will use in loosest terms possible) on the situation.

Team salaries are a zero sum game. Drew is not demanding more money from benson. He is squeezing it out of graham, the OL, etc.

Would it be better for drew to get 23 vs 22 or for graham to get 1.75 vs 0.75?

Is anyone else put off by Drew's disappointed, sad guy bit?

Bobby Black is Paddy.

Drew...can it.

We know you have only made about 80 million or so, if not more with salary and endorsements, and you are about to go under.
But you are playing in a state of some of the poorest people in the nation. I feed a family of five on 40 to 50k a year. In my entire life ten times over, i won't make a year of your money. Shut the hell up. The team has alot going on right now, don't know if you noticed what has been going on this offseason, but please, just hang in there guy. Try not to spend all your money on tissue. You WILL be signed. You know, we know it, they know it. Your poor-mouthing crud is not going to wash here in La.
And when you get your money, try not to thank your sky daddy too much. it is us, the fans who save and scrimp for that splurge of your 120 dollar jersey, the 300 dollar cheap seats, and 9 dollar beers who paid it for you. Millionaires arguing over the space of about 2 mill a year makes me a bit ill, so tone it down there Breesus. You will get your payday, your kids and grandkids will never have to work, worry about bills or anything ever again, and we fans will still spend every spare dime we have to see our teams play. So go sit down somewhere and pretend to be outraged in a quiet room.
I don't have the liver to listen to your crybaby crap. it is beneath you. You are a role model, a hero, and a great QB. Future Hall of Famer with a bullet. Have some damned class too.
We love you, will never let you leave, and there will be statues, busts, buildings, streets and all sorts of things bearing your name and likeness before it is all over, so try not to get too much mud and egg all over everything while you two argue over 19 mill, or 22 mill a year for playing a damned game.
Love ya DREW DAT!
