Like I said, if WR is in dire straits.....why trade Cooks? Also, why didn't they draft one?
Because they signed Ginn and they are hoping he can replace Cooks. If he cant, we will be rigbt back to looking for a receivee either during the season or during next offseason.

Really? We've lost far more games due to our defense.
Yes, that just means we have more than 1 problem with this team. We lost games because of offense, defense and special teams last year.

Correct.
the Giants game, Denver, and even the Carolina Thursday night game were lost because of special teams in my opinion.
the Giants game was tough cause for once our D came up with a bunch of takeaways in a road game. But in the end.. it was a Crawley hate fest on this board for the PI that set up the winning points for NYG.
the Denver game stayed close cause of the defense. Mike Thomas has a rough day with fumbles on offense. Then of course the blocked extra point at the end.. what a joke.
the Carolina game was a 10 point swing after a blocked kick too. They block it.. the return for a TD is wiped out by a penalty but then they capitalize shortly after with a TD anyway. Then for whatever reason we take our time trying to cut the deficit with a time sustaining drive in the 4th quarter. That game was a pathetic display by Payton.. totally opposite from the attack style that served him well for so long.

This is beyond dumb and why normal people are not cut out to be NFL GMs and should stick to Madden. 2014 was considered one of the best drafts for NFL WRs. Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins, OBJ, Jarvis Landry, Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin, Jordan Matthews, Devante Adams, Allen Robinson, Donte Moncrief and Martavis Bryant. And all their contracts expire next year. The flood on the market will drop the price for one or two of those guys and as long as Drew has a good season, it should attract one of those WRs who has a bad QB.
Therefore, I disagree with trading our best RB for a WR who will be available in FA next year.

I do not want to trade Ingram. I assumed we'd draft a WR, but liked the perceived value we got with all our picks. But I think we can all agree that Ginn is not replacing Cooks' production. But to me, it's about depth. If Thomas or Snead go down, WR becomes a pretty big weakness.
We are going to have to sign somebody before camp. It's not like Drew has the arm strength now to just run around back there like Rodgers and wing it when somebody finally gets open. Our passing game relies so much on precision timing and Drew and the WR being on the same page. I'm not saying throw a ton of money at somebody still available now--and frick a trade in the arse--but I don't think it's as easy as just picking some dude up off the street week 4 if one of our main guys goes down.
That said, can't wait to see how Sean uses Kamara. He may wind up being a glorified slot receiver himself.

If Drew Brees goes down, QB becomes a big weakness as well.
Im not calling Ginn a great WR by any stretch because we all know his tendencies to drop the ball alot. At the same time he's never had a QB near as accurate as Drew. I think people are sleeping on him just a bit. We also paid him just enough money to where he is def going to be in the mix. We are not trading Ingram for what will be a 4th WR

20 mill is just the going rate.
Glennon got 18 and he isn't one of the greatest QBs of all time.

Had their 5th year options picked up and won't be FA's until 2019.

True, but this is still a great WR FA group:

I am surprised you got 3 up votes. That is a lot.

Just a top running back who has gotten better every year he's been in the league. But we should trade him for another team's 3rd receiver and a bag of chips.
The thread would be more honest if it were renamed "Ingram should be traded because he went to Alabama"

Watkins has injury concerns, but dude has so much potential.
Landry won't leave Miami
Matthews has drop problems worse than Coleman. I wanted him in the draft too. Maybe we can fix him.
Adams is someone who had all the chances and just flat out sucked it all away. I think he also had a huge drop problem the last couple years too.
Robinson was elite for one year, but he has to deal with bottles. Question is someone is going to pay but who? I think he gets tagged
Moncrief is solid but they'll keep weapons for luck
Bryant is also another solid receiver. They will keep him for big Ben.

You are certifiably retarded.

Ingram was average to slightly below-average his first couple of years. Then he got good - or Sean figured out how to use him, or both.
I suspect a lot of the Ingram hate is from his first impression his first two years in NOLA. Casual fans remember that and that impression is going to stick no matter what he does after that.
He's a completely different player now than he was his first two years, and has definitely become a top 15-20 RB in the league.

I think this shows that the level of WR is just about as important as RB is in recent history

Jimmy Graham, Marques Colston, Jeremy Shockey, Darren Sproles, Brandin Cooks
Less than half those names are receivers.
And with all due respect to Colston, while a good receiver, I wouldn't say he is a "weapon" to the likes of a Beckham, Jones, or Brown.
Look at what Tom Brady did with Randy Moss. Ridiculous regular season and playoff run that ended with a miracle catch beating them for the super bowl.
Imagine if Brees had an actual weapon and not just good receiving tight ends/running backs.
That's not, and has never been Brees' game. He doesn't want superstars freelancing and demanding the ball, he wants generic players with good hands, that will be where he expects them to be, so that he can quickly read the play, and hit the open guy. One should be faster so he can run deep, one should be a shifty guy out of the backfield so he can abuse a linebacker trying to cover him.
