re: I'm beginning to think Delane is the best pick. Makes a lot of sense and checks the box.

In that era maybe but the ball hawk safeties aren’t as valued as they once were

I like Delane but he’s also not your shadow CB1 you’d typically be looking for at this slot

I’m hoping one of the pass rushers falls to us to make this an easy decision

But also, I feel like pressure and sacks on the QB are the way to go.

The Saints have failed at identifying this type of player for years, let’s keep doing the same. And the one guy who was good, Hendrickson, we let walk in favor of Davenport. The hope the Saints stay far away from DE with the first pick.

I guess we should never pick a DE again

Foskey was a 2nd round pick, and he was a waste of space agree there.

Payton Turner just wasn't durable.

Davenport was picked in Round 1 eight years ago. He was very productive when he did play but he couldn't stay healthy either.

But you don't just give up on drafting a position because of recent misses and Davenport is nearing being picked almost a decade ago. We need to let that go man

But the Saints defense finished 16th in scoring and 9th in passing yards allowed. I wouldn't mind picking another corner or a safety depending on how said player is used. I guess it just depends on who is on the board when they pick.

Same issue as WR. This draft is deep in quality edge rushers but the top talents are questionable.
Bain has historically short arms and no one with his profile has been successful in the last 28 years.
Bailey has a great speed rush but is meh in every other way.
Wait until later rounds to pick up an edge or two. We need to draft based on what talents are coming out, not what we want them to be

Precisely I think we go Bailey or Bain in the first and then take Chris bell in the second he’s a pro bowler

I would be fine with Delane but I’m just an overall hater of that entire position. It’s such a vital position but it’s also so volatile because you never know (if you actually get an elite one) how long they stay elite. Sauce had a couple of good years and he’s not bad by any means but certainly wouldn’t say elite.

Lattimore hit a wall after the 2017 season. He was good in 2018-2020 but he was only ever truly elite that first year or two. Snead for the Chiefs was elite for years and he fell off a cliff after getting traded to the Titan. Gonzo and Surtain are young and yes having those 2-3 years of absolute elite play is huge because they can shut down and entire side of the field but drafting them and giving them a second contract almost never seems worth it and I don’t think the value is there as much as people think because you’re getting 5-6 years of elite play from a top 10 pick and not potentially 10+ years, which is very feasible for an Edge, a WR or an OT. Hell, even LBs that become elite stay elite for a while. Look at Demario.

I’d say the hardest positions to play, to scout and draft are easily QB and CB but for entirely different reasons.

Exactly how I feel. I don’t think Delane would ever be in the same conversation as Surtain, Gonzo, etc. But he wouldn’t be a bad player by any means. He’d be good player. I don’t want a good player at 8. I want an elite one.
