If you were GM, would you trade picks?

...I would say no, not to trade up or down.
I would wait and see who drops to me and take best on board.
This draft seems stacked with roll players in running back, defensive line , offensive line and TE.
I believe I could get some quality guys with those four positions.
Possibly a good linebacker as well.

I wouldn't trade up but I'd be open to trading down to pick up future additional picks.
That's likely not what the Saints will do. They have 8 picks in the draft and I can't see them using all 8. History says they will move up in the first then likely package a 5th and two 7th to get an extra 4th or high 5th or package the two 7ths for a 6th.

If a team picking early 2nd round wants our pick to get Hooker or a sliding Levis with a 5th year option, I would listen. Not much difference between pick 29 and picks 32-36. It'd be worth it for an extra 3rd this year, or maybe an extra 2nd next year.

I'd trade down for future early round picks. I think we'll be middle of the road this year and we get into the playoffs as the division winner. Having additional draft capital next season would be nice instead of hedging the future like we seem to do every year.

If a team is in on a QB who is still available at 29, there's a decent probability they'll try to move up, but if it's a QB or WR slotted middle 2nd or lower, they won't. They'll go Pick 33-40 to miss the first round issue.
And it'll be slightly cheaper to move into a spot later than the Saints' #29.
TL/DR: Picks #28-#32 are fundamentally less attractive due to the associated lack of the fifth year option.

Best case scenario for me is qb dropping to us and a team wants that 5th year option.
Would love multiple 2nd thru 4th round picks.
It's just not very probable. My 1st round prediction will be right one day.

Could be the year.
Despite popular opinion that the Saints always trade up in the 1st round they have only traded up 3 times since 2010.
2014, 2018 and last years eagles trade.
Caveat, in 2014 and 2018 they traded out of the 27th spots. This year they're at 29... in 2022 more so than trading up they added a 2nd 1st round pick

If a player you really like is there and you don’t think he will fall to you, then trade up for him if you think the price is right. It’s all judged in hindsight. Look 2018, nobody questions Buffalo trading a 1st and two 2nds to move up 5 spots to draft Josh Allen. Everyone questions the Saints trading a dozen 1st round picks to move up 14 spots to draft Marcus Davenport or the Jets giving up multiple 2nd rounders to move up 3 spots to draft Sam Darnold.

the saints will do exactly what they always do, they will trade the 29th and all the other picks they have after the 3rd round, plus a 1st or 2nd round future pick, plus gain an extra 3rd or 4th round pick, just to move up into the late teens in the first round, to pick a guy that all experts agree they could have picked at 29 without making that trade.
they will come out of this draft with only just 4 picks after giving up a high future pick, its just what they do.
not saying this would be a good or bad thing, depends who they get out of it, just dont expect to come out of this draft with more than 4 picks made.

So what you do is you have a board and you have needs.
Say you are picking 29th. Now you have DE and DT rated as almost equal needs.
When you are picking at #29 the DE you had rated as the #24 best player is still there, but so is the DT that you had rated #26 and then maybe a LBer that you thought would be gone by #20.
So you field calls and see how far you will fall. So am i going to trade back and still get a Top 30 player, Is it going to be one of my top DEs or DTs left on the board....What is the distance between Player A and the next pick.

The Saints need 5 or 6 players at most looking at their roster on who they have nice investments in. That being said anything beyond 4 they should not keep the pick.

Come away with 5 really solid players maybe dip into next years draft and get ur DT, DE, OG, WO, TE, and RB. I’d be thrilled if they did that. Worry bout next year next year. Or do the same thing next year. This year is always the most important.

I do not think that we can compare this year to the recent past regarding saints drafts. In the last few years, they have had very few holes in the roster that needs to be filled. Thus, trading away picks for a player they targeted was understandable.
Now, there are a few more holes to fill. And there is no way to NOT notice that the team has one foot in salary cap hell. To allow a vet to walk in the future, you need someone behind him.
TLDR - pick as are more valuable to the team now than they have been in recent years.

That's what I thought myself. Trade away what ever value you can with all pick over 125.
Try and stay between the 2nd and even 3rd rounds. Get 4 or 5 quality players.

NO NO NO ,, come on , we’re in need of Multiple players not just one gamble on a player.. we would have to trading away multiple picks , for 1 Maybe … and the no doubt 2 or 3 picks we have to give away.. draft those 2 or 3maybes instead of 1

If I were a GM, I would trade down all the time. There's always value to be found. The rare trade ups are for Elite Talent at Prime Positions (QB, EDGE, OT)
