Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu not only played a full season for the first time in his career, he also played more snaps than any other player in the NFL.
Mathieu’s total of 1,261 snaps was one more than Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, who also played 12 plays on offense.
That should help Mathieu’s case when it comes to the big decision the Cardinals must make by this spring. If Mathieu is on the roster at the start of the 2018 “league year” (March 14), he’s guaranteed to make $19 million in 2018-19.
That includes a $5 million roster bonus, his salary of $5.75 million in 2018 and $8 million of the 2019 salary. His cap number is due to increase by $6 million, to $14.1 million in 2018.
The team might ask Mathieu to take a pay cut. If he declines that offer, the Cardinals could release him. If that happens, Mathieu will have collected $21.25 million since signing an extension in August of 2016.

I’m almost willing to let Drew walk to get honey badger in the dome
Not really but damn I love Mathieu

SMH at all the teams that passed on him earlier in the draft that year.

The dude has had two major surgeries and wasn't he kinda obsolete this year? I didn't hear about him as much as a playmaker as in years past.

Would fap endlessly if this happens. Let Vaccaro walk and upgrade to Mathieu? Hell yes.
A secondary with potentially Breaux, Lattimore, Crawley, both Williams, Bell and Mathieu would be insane.

He’s blown out a knee twice and really wasn’t the playmaker he was before - hence the decision for Arizona

Not trying to doubt Mathieu’s mental strength but Nola is what had him on a dark path all his life. Kid finally turned his life around and would hate to see him go back down that path being around his old friends. Would love to have him though but I don’t think it would be a great idea, football aside

Would love to have him here. Would be a great guy in the locker room and would be a vocal guy on our D.
Having said that, the Cards won't release him and he will likely take the pay cut. Even if he is released someone else will pay a lot more for him
In other words, it's a pipe dream

yep, everyone sees a well known "name" and they always thing he is still the player he was in his prime, or close to it if we sign them
no one bothers to accept the reality the reason they are available is because they are no longer that player and most of them are washed up guys who only help you as much as some lesser known guy

Eh I feel Breaux would will be released. He hadn’t played in 2 years and can’t get back on the field but if we got old breaux it would be sick

Even if he were to become a free agent, he’d never consider us. He made some pretty strong comments against the city last year.

“Every time I go back home, Rich. I cannot stay for longer than two days,” he said. “People know where you are. They know where you’re at. And they will find you. And they will bump into you. And they will try to start some kind of altercation with you. And the first thing that they think about is to take your life. They don’t want to ask any questions, they don’t want to talk about anything. They just want to let loose with their guns.”

Saints have a history of picking up big name players that are past their prime. Going back to Billy Kilmer, Ken Stabler, Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung to name a few. There's been plenty.
ETA correct spelling of Paul Hornung.

3 yrs ago sure..not now..its time for this team not to go after guys with injuries and age.We had a killer draft lets keep moving in that direction as opposed to paying free agents that get paid and quit.

Wouldn't pay more than 8mil/yr for him honestly
too injury prone and not as effective as he was before the surgeries. He's still above average though, but you have to ask is the $$$ worth 12 games a year

You don't even watch football anymore, how would you know?
Def shouldn't go get that Drew Brees guy
