It really depends. If one of them fell to #10, you think the trade would be there to grab one of them from Chicago. If they fell to #12, the trade would probably be with Oakland at #14 before the Rams pick. And it depends on what the deal is and who is available.

As for picking a QB, I wouldn't be overly happy. I'd have to really think about it.

It isn't easy to get a great quarterback via free agency.

In fact, it's down right rare.

Where did we get Drew? Free agency.

Trivia. How many free agent QBs went on to have a hall of fame career with the team that signed them?

This draft is about improving the defense now while the small window of Brees's career can produce at an elite level. To hell with a QB of the future. Besides a G, our first 4 picks should be defense.

Yep. 2017 & 2018 are what we should be building our team for. We also don't even have a chance unless our defense improves dramatically.

We can win in the future with a good defense & an average offense with a young qb, but we NEED to have our defense legit when Brees leaves or we are screwed.

You take the QB that drops. Brees is a UFA next year. This gives the new QB one year to train under Brees. Hopefully he could get 3 years of training behind Brees, but Brees will need to restructure his contract. That has not happened.
This will be one of the few times you can get a top 1 or 2 QB at 12. Unless you plan to lose many games over the next 2 years, this will be your only opportunity to get a top QB. You will have to pay a lot (Ex: Osweiler gets $18 mil/year... for what? He's not that good.)

More than likely, that's where our next big time QB will come from, not from the draft.

. We arguably had the biggest steal in NFL history getting Drew that offseason. Everyone thought he was damaged goods, and CSP had the balls to bring him along anyways. The rest is history. That type of deal hardly ever happens.

With that being said, please draft fricking defense. CSP's system evidently worked quite well with McCown, who probably set a career high in completion percentage against a stingy Carolina D. Plus we did just draft a QB last season... Offense should be the least of our concerns, regardless of Drew getting old. Shore up our defense and we are in the playoffs easily. Hell, having a good D helps whatever QB starts for us in the future. I'd rather gamble on that than a QB who could potentially bust.

That was a once in a lifetime grab from Free Agency. QB's getting overpaid these days,so you want see a steal like that again in our lifetime.

No, there is no QB in this draft that would be worth a first round draft pick for the Saints they have other needs they have to fill.

No doubt, get get over market value for that pick for some of the teams below 12. Would probably be the best value the Saints get in the draft if it happens.

The only way the Saints would take a QB is if it was an overwhelming BPA. I don't think either are "must pick" values at #12. Down into the 20s that might be a consideration. Think Aaron Rodgers who was a tossup with Alex Smith for the #1 overall predraft. Farve was 36 and coming off a solid year with the Pack going 10-6 winning their division. THAT was a "must pick" on valuation at #24.

I will always support strong BPAs even at positions of little need. Deuce and Will Smith were both "must picks" on valuation and positions of low need at the time. It is all in where you draw the valuation line for "must".

Not really. There are plenty of legit qb's that get drafted late 1st-2nd round. Russell Wilson went in the 3rd.

one season without Brees might net a Top 5 pick fo sho also.

The way the NFL is now, the whole draft a future QB guy for development is diminishing unless after the 1st or 2nd Rd. Until Brees says this is the last season or his production hits a Peyton Manning-like wall then forget about a QB. Hell, the Broncos had a guy designed for that. All they ended up doing was train him for the Texans.

Yet no one can see into the future as to what type of quarterbacks will be available if this scenario were to occur. Personally, I say wait until next draft to look at QBs again draft wise. That class will be deeper & more talented plus it gives the organization another season to evaluate what they have in Grayson. The longer Grayson stays in the system, the more valuable he becomes as a potential trade piece even if the feeling inside the organization that he isn't future after Brees is done.
