re: If DA doesn't make Ronald Curry the defacto Offensive Coordinator this week

I would rather let Carr run a no huddle and call his own plays at this point.

Curry worked for the niners. This isn’t a system issue. Its bad play calling on certain situations and certain defenses. You need a different personality calling plays to solve this problem. Going all verts on third and short every play is dumb as is throwing short on third and long. A different playcaller in same system will make a great difference.

Curry has been working under this some offensive philosophy since 2016. Going to him can’t be any worse but if we are wanting to get away from this system we need to clean out all of these offensive couching holdovers
Fair point, but also if this were to happen Curry would be well aware of why Carmichael is getting stripped of play calling duties and I would imagine he would make a concerted effort to implement some changes.

Oh absolutely. He knows they have to succeed offensively to keep the job. Curry played in the NFL. Im not saying its a requisite for the job but sometimes I feel like Carmichael has no feel for the game. Part of that comes from being a life long assistant who never played professionally or collegiately at that level.

One of those years was under this guy:
And an OC who is a positional coach in college today.
This wasn't the Shannahan system my dude

I mean what data do we have on Curry's playcalling?
Other than a brief stint in SF (2014 Greg Roman and Geep Chryst in 2015, which was historically bad) as an offensive assistant, Curry has been a part of this offense. He doesn't have any experience under another coaching system worth a shite and he has 0 scheming/playcalling experience.
All great points, but what's the worst that can happen? We score zero touchdowns per game instead 0.75?
Either way you're losing. You know Carmichael isn't the answer. Why not go another route. You basically have nothing to lose.

A bigger issue may be the playbook itself. We're stuck with it this year.

I dont care what that guy did as long it was experience outside of the Saints in a competent NFL offense. I doubt that niners offense was is as inept as ours has been the last 2 years. I’ll say this again replacing Carmichael as a playcaller is addition by subtraction.

Thats my point again your winning just with Carmichael not calling plays.
Posted on 10/2/23 at 12:51 pm to Pels_Yaz
Have you seen the film study video?
I agree you'd do better with another playcaller but the play designs are a huge issue. If the whole playbook is full of these idiotic concepts then you have a bigger problem.

The most likely move would be elevated Marrone to OC.

Not imo. I think Curry is the guy behind Pete. Curry has the bigger relationship with Thomas, Olave, Sheed and others. He's been a part of the design proccess much more so than Doug fricking maronne.

But again thats Carmichael designing plays or using Seans old stuff improperly. Curry might recognize it and tweak it. Regardless to argue- DA will ride or die with Carmichael he says. Which is good, meaning we’ll fire DA because if Carmichael keeps calling plays it wont get better.

Unless you want pistol zone-read or an offense directed by a guy who is currently a positional coach in college, then you may want to think about this.

Yes for gods sake yes. I don’t think you get it, at this point I’ll take anything other than the bullshite we been seeing for the last year and 4 games. Why are you assuming Ron Curry will have the same exact offense as from some random guy he coached under with niners??!! Our offense scheme likely stay the same but playcalling will differ which at this point would be amazing. ANYTHING OTHER THAN CARMICHAEL IS ADDITION BY SUBSTRACTION. HES THAT BAD OF A PLAYCALLER!
Posted on 10/2/23 at 2:41 pm to SlowFlowPro
I hate to say this but your kind of thinking is exactly the type of coach DA is. Too chicken shite to make a change because he assumes the change wont be better. I would hope you’re not that type of fan. Keep sticking with stuff that doesn’t work because change is not going to be better. At this point, change might be exactly whats needed.

Pete Carmichael is an extremely well-respected offensive mind, specifically a play designer. This is what he did for Payton as an OC, Payton actually called the plays.
Stupid analogy alert
Having a stack of great plays is like having a bag full of great tools. You have to use them appropriately, in the right situation, in the right sequence, and at the right time for them to get the full benefit of them.
In essence, Carmichael was the toolmaker and Payton was the mechanic. Now we are trying to get the tool maker to work on our car and it's not really working so well. We need a new mechanic even if it means losing our toolmaker.

Except you would assume the toolmaker would know how his tools work and when they are used. Most OCs do. Petey doesn’t which is kind of sad.

Our previous head coach called the plays, he was the OC at game time. Pete was just the play designer or real OC who was the head coach as well. That was the point I was trying to make, poorly it appears.
