For a late round QB, like the local media does for Rattler
John Hendrix making excuses for him on the Saints Squad pod right now

Maybe he likes him and thinks he can be good one day

neither one of these guys deserve to have anyone carrying water for them....
neither one of them will end up being, at BEST, more than a career backup in the NFL

You are correct on this. As for neither being more than a backup…..that’s definitely statistically likely. BUT that’s why there is no reason to start Rattler……and at least see for sure what you have in Shough.

at this point, it really doesn't matter who we start... we ain't doing much winning this year anyway

I say give Rattler 8 games and then Shough 8 games.
Then Haener that last gave to secure the number one pick.

This is one of the most lame, most worn out cliches used with young QBs.

Tell us your NFL QB evaluation process.

I hated the Shough pick but if you watched him today and only saw career backup then you i don’t think you know a thing about football.

You tell me yours first. Before doing so, does it contain 60-70 year old cliches?

was not a fan of drafting him either
however we have to hope for the best that this shitshow works out.
i liked alot of what i saw today from him. this will still take years to rebuild. loomis delayed us at least 3 years from starting this sooner.

So we all know this for sure after he went up against what amounts to UFL level talent?

you have your opinion about him, i have mine... i see a guy with a great arm, decent pocket presence, above average running ability, but a guy that will turn the ball over and take untimely sacks holding the ball too long... not saying he's a scrub, but i just think his ceiling is backup/spot duty starter... i don't see him ever being a quality starting QB in the NFL

Who did you take in your mock draft
Posted on 8/10/25 at 8:23 pm to chRxis
The things you listed are things most rookie QBs struggle with. He has things you can’t teach. I saw a kid who looked extremely comfortable out there, decisive, big arm, accurate. He also appeared to be mobile. If he continues to learn and play smart football the kid could have a good future. With that being said, i hated the pick but not sure how anyone can draw the conclusion after watching the game today that was is nothing but a backup

What else do you want to judge it off of? What is there to judge? We only saw him play today and he wasn’t playing with starters either. He’s throwing to backup WRs and playing behind a backup oline with backup RBs. He did a decent great job minus one awful decision which i think is a learning experience

at 40, i was hoping for Mason Taylor or Will Johnson... both could have gone a long way to solving some problems as their respective positions on our squad... our TEs are fricking dreadful, and we had just lost Adebo, so Johnson would have a been a nice replacement for him

I don’t think anyone is trying to say for sure that he’s the long term answer. Hell I’m not even saying that it was a great move to pick a QB in the 2nd.
BUT it I definitely don’t think that it was a BAD move to take a swing and see if you could get a starter on an even cheaper rookie deal than you would with a 1st rounder (not that it’s some huge difference).
I also think it shows that the staff wasn’t all that high on Rattler from the tape they watched, but they still wanted to evaluate him theirselves (which is smart IMO).

Crowning someone a capable NFL starting QB after a few quarters of preseason football against a bland, talentless defense is ridiculous. Look at your original post in this thread. You really think Shough saw disguised coverages & fronts pre snap today? I will give you the answer. NO! He didn't see anything close to what he would see in a regular season game. And this isn't just Shough either. It's about every rookie QB who played this weekend where people are creaming themselves saying how great such & such looked.

I get what you’re saying, but what you just described is a player that is worth taking a chance on in the 2nd. Even if he turns into a spot starter/backup that’s not a bad pick. Hell most 1st rd QBs flame out.
Definitely not saying he will be a good starter, but he has more upside than Rattler
