re: I am not particularly ecstatic about how this whole QB situation has played out

Hill still carries the 5th highest cap hit on the team this season. You’re gonna have to put this one past you, and realize Hill still have to be a big part of the offense. Including some snaps at QB

Taysom either sucks at decision making or doesn't trust his ability to make the throws
Either way he's not a starting qb
He's just not a good pocket QB. Never was.
He's still damn valuable though. He can pretty much do everything else you ask him to. Nobody else on the team can say that.

kind of amazing really
Taysom is so awful at down field throwing that Underhill said Taysom was making progress by over throwing instead of under throwing guys.

This right here!!! To be honest Winston won that job last year when Payton put in Hill when Brees got hurt. If you think otherwise you are simply not paying attention.

That's the only reason we were able to sign him for 2.5 mil this year.
If he would've played...he would've probably gotten some pretty good offers imo.

I don't think you picked up the correct intent of my comment.

A 4 year starter, who was barely winning the job, if at all, after 8 weeks of camp and pre-season has finally pulled away against the 31 year old Mormon tight end. While Jameis should be the starter, I'm not excited about the fact that this race is still somewhat close if Calloway doesn't make the two most insane catches of his life. In reality, both QB's have been average through 90% of their reps in camp and in pre-season. What does it say about Jameis that this QB race has been close for so long? I don't see how anyone could feel very positive about what has transpired.
In reality all we are left with is Jameis Winston at QB (someone who we as Saints fans perpetually made fun of for being so bad the last 4 years), who has shown no signs of real improvement, Ian Book as QB #2 and a 20 pound underweight Taysom Hill now trying to find his way back to the receiver core. I would feel much better about this if one of the QB's actually played really well this entire camp and pre-season and won this job swiftly and effectively; they didn't.
I just think the dichotomy of Saints fans going from thinking Winston is hilariously bad 2 years ago to now thinking he is the second coming of Christ 2 years later because he barely beat out a tight end in a QB battle at the end of the preseason is just the most baffling thing ever.
The most realistic path to success this season is to just do what we did with Bridgewater: pound the fricking rock to oblivion and let our defense win us 9 games.
You sound like a puss? Or a negative Nancy?

What they are also overlooking is that even though Taysom may not be starter material, the QB competition has forced him to work on his footwork, reads & mechanics as a passer.
The previous Taysom packages didn't call for him to throw many passes. If Payton decides to go back to using Taysom in that role, at least he will be better prepared as a passer so that packages won't be so predictable because Payton will be able to expand the Taysom play package even more. This camp competition has been a win/win for both Winston & Taysom. Maybe this is what Payton had in mind all along.

I wasn’t responding directly to your comment
But Payton doesn’t need to see what Hill can do running the football. And just because you can cater and design an offense around a QB doesn’t mean you should. The rest of the personnel needs to be considered as well

its giving an offensive style a chance to be successful. its not an abandonment on passing the ball and other things that are important to a successful offense.

Taysom has been dealt a shite deck in this competition so far. Hasn't played a snap with either offensive tackle. Has had Latavius Murray running 1.1 ypc most of the time. You can see moments where he had opportunities to escape but appears to have orders not to. Then the said lack of success is now the detriment to him losing a starting opportunity. frick Payton.

That is simply the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth. I love what Taysom bring to the table as a football player. He's super talented & the type of big play offensive player who is a threat every time he touches the ball. He's exciting to watch play as an offensive jack of all trades player. I can say that & still see that he is not an NFL caliber starting QB. He is what he is. Taysom just needs go back to being a football player because he's better in that role & seemed to be having more fun then. Right now he's pressing, struggling with his reads, looks lost at times & doesn't appear to be happy or playing with same energy as he did in the past.

interesting note: Heading into 7th years in NFL. Jameis is a year younger than was Drew Brees and has over 3k more passing yards at comparative points of years in league.

so you're of the belief Sean sabotaged him for what reason exactly? If anything, Hill being legitimate would be a larger feather in his cap.
The correct answer is probably Hill didn't progress the ways Sean had hoped he would a few years when he made the comments about what he thought Hill could be.
Sean knows what it takes to win in the NFL now and the answer isn't catering an offense around an extremely limited QB effectively playing with one hand tied behind your back.

Ask Payton. I don't know what the frick he's thinking. I said he did a shite job with taysom last year during times of when Taysom was playing. He's handicapped Taysom during these preseason show cases with how things have played out and what limitations have been put on him. Payton has had 3 years to write goofy shite on napkins on how to design an offense for Taysom's abilities and HE HASN'T DONE JACK frickING shite TO CATER ANYTHING TO TAYSOM. (eta: cater when he's actually playing starting qb; not taysom the joker cause then payton gets all kinds of creative)

why should he when he has a better QB on the roster?

then he should never have declared anything a competition if he's going to stack the deck so that he doesn't allow taysom to do things he's great at.
