I am not particularly ecstatic about how this whole QB situation has played out

A 4 year starter, who was barely winning the job, if at all, after 8 weeks of camp and pre-season has finally pulled away against the 31 year old Mormon tight end. While Jameis should be the starter, I'm not excited about the fact that this race is still somewhat close if Calloway doesn't make the two most insane catches of his life. In reality, both QB's have been average through 90% of their reps in camp and in pre-season. What does it say about Jameis that this QB race has been close for so long? I don't see how anyone could feel very positive about what has transpired.

In reality all we are left with is Jameis Winston at QB (someone who we as Saints fans perpetually made fun of for being so bad the last 4 years), who has shown no signs of real improvement, Ian Book as QB #2 and a 20 pound underweight Taysom Hill now trying to find his way back to the receiver core. I would feel much better about this if one of the QB's actually played really well this entire camp and pre-season and won this job swiftly and effectively; they didn't.

I just think the dichotomy of Saints fans going from thinking Winston is hilariously bad 2 years ago to now thinking he is the second coming of Christ 2 years later because he barely beat out a tight end in a QB battle at the end of the preseason is just the most baffling thing ever.

The most realistic path to success this season is to just do what we did with Bridgewater: pound the fricking rock to oblivion and let our defense win us 9 games.

So you’ve seen a lot of guys look better than Jameis over the course of 22 passes in a pre-season in your Saints fandom lifetime? 16-22 for 230 and 3 TD 1 INT. At that rate, Jameis would approach 55 TD’s this year.

Yeah… his performance has been so disappointing grandpa.

Imagine it is a random Fall weekend in 2019. Saints are playing the Bucs. You are excited that we are playing Jameis Winston because he is guaranteed to throw at least 2 picks against us. Even more so, you look forward to making fun of his unserious antics and pregame routines.

Fast forward two years later. Jameis Winston finally secured his spot as a starter at the end of pre-season. He barely made it past our Gadget player Taysom Hill for the starting job and you are absolutely ecstatic.

Someone please explain what happened in between these two moments that would require to change your mind so much. I find this absolutely baffling.

Who's ecstatic, except for maybe Jeff Duncan and Brows Magee from the Slum Herald?

Do you live under a rock? People are quite literally rejoicing that Jameis has won the job. I have not seen twitter this happy since Trump lost. It is so bizarre.

Playing in a Sean Payton offense is what changed. When the Bucs originally drafted Winston most fans who follow the game close enough, felt that if the Bucs had the right coach, with the right system & right talent around Winston that Tampa could be a problem in the division.

Yes, Winston has turned the ball over a lot in his career so far but a lot of that was the offensive system, Winston putting too much pressure to do it all on himself, a poor offensive line & no run game around him.

This nonsense that Winston lacks talent or dumb is made up bullshite by people who couldn't separate his youthful, playful, goofiness, sometimes immaturity apart from lacking intelligence. Winston has plenty of talent & isn't stupid by any means. He's grown up & gotten married. You combine those aspects along with a year of learning under Brees, playing & learning under Payton & Carmichael & an offensive system that's QB friendly & any knowledgeable fan can see the potential for Winston to finally reach his full potential.

Maybe some fans/writers are excited to see the deep ball/shot play return to the Saints offense. It's been gone since 2016 when Brees bruised his rotator cuff at home against the Bucs that season.

I think Taysom has honestly disappointed dude just doesn’t have it at starting QB in the NFL. Jameis separated himself as the starter for me.

Well the Twitter machine as Coach O refers to it as doesn’t necessarily impress everybody nowadays what with their outright brazen free speech suppression so... bear that in mind but I digress. Jameis Winston is the best option the New Orleans saints have at quarterback today.

It's 2018. Ryan Tannehill has just played his 7th year for the Miami Dolphins and threw for less than 2,000 yards.

It's 2019. Ryan Tannehill leads the Titans to the AFC championship game for the first time since 2002 and wins Comeback player of the year.

What changed?

Taysom hasnt taken a single snap at qb w either Armstead or Ramczyk at OT. Yet expected to compete fairly for a job. No designed runs called or even appears to be allowed to run on scrambles.

He's a cornball, a weak leader, and can't be taken seriously. He's a slightly worse Aaron Brooks. The most easy-to-make-fun-of player in the league.

I can't wait to read this forum around week 6 when it is made abundantly clear that Jameis is just a below average quarterback with no special ability. We all know that, though. Some Saints fans just turn into blind optimists though and logic isn't necessarily a consideration.

Might, and if so, what entirely is your point? Winston starting doesn't mean he doesn't suck.

Are you lost?

It was said on the broadcast multiple times last night that the QB battle took so long because Payton wanted to give Taysom every opportunity to win the job. That doesn't mean Jameis barely got that job. It means he had it a long time ago and Hill was never able to win it from him.

Nah, are u?
quote:

It's Taysom. It always was - you are correct. How one could watch a presser with Payton talking about Taysom and not get a hint of his admiration for Taysom and the player he is is beyond me. Instead, the Jameis stans latched on to some weird lip reading of Brees telling Winston "this is your team now." Jameis is trash can material who has shown zero progress as a player and decision maker since entering the league. They'll get over Taysom as the starter the second he runs in his first TD from 50 yards out.

I prefer Taysom. Stick to the context. Never said I didn't. But you replied to my post that clearly and plainly stated that we'll know by week 6 that Jameis is still...Jameis. Which, of course, heavily implies that Winston has the leg up on starting.

You are conflating me preferring Taysom with Winston getting the start and not sucking. Winston can get the start, be better than Taysom in Payton's eyes, and still suck. Logic not your strong suit?

As stated, you're lost.
