I believe they will, but how?

mortgage the future and give up the 2021 1st (Hopefully the 32nd pick)

Or trade a player like Kamara (Who has a lot of value but will be due a contract soon and the Saints offense isn't married to the RB position)

If its a trade (with AK41) to me Miami (39th pick) makes sense.

would trading back (which I know SP and ML never do) from 24 to 26th plus the 39th be doable?

why not the 32nd pick next year?

And if we trade with my Miami (plausible in my opinion) I want more than just the 39th pick, I'd like a 3rd and 7th as well

No.

We might be able to drop out of the first round and get two second rounders.

If we drop in the first we will get middle round pick(s).

Sporting News 2020 Team-By-Team Draft Pick Order

Article above has the following teams with 2(or more) 2nd/3rdrounders. If we trade down these are the most likely teams.

Ravens (55 & 60)
Bears (43 & 50) they have no 1st round
Broncos (they have 3 3rds)
Texans (40 & 57)
Colts (34 & 44)
Patriots (3 3rds)
Seahawks (59 & 64)

This.

I know it seems like we've been saying it for 5-6 years now, but the Saints are playing for "today" rather than worrying a ton about the future. Trading Kamara doesn't help you in 2020 as much as having him on the roster.

I, like you, believe the Saints are going get into the 2nd round because that's just been their MO in virtually all of the Payton-era drafts. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised, at all, if the Saints trade up in the first round.

I'm not trying to devalue what Kamara (when healthy) does for the team, I just think SP and Loomis have shown that they can ferret out quality RB's and get them to preform well enough to keep the passing game open for Brees.

I don't totally disagree with you though.

Not that it won’t happen but i can’t even describe how stupid it would be to trade Kamara. What would the point be? We are all in and you suggest we trade one of our best weapons for a 2nd round pick? The only think that does is open up another hole on our team that we would need to fill. What most likely happens? Saints hold on to Kamara and try and win it all this season, either sign him long term or franchise him and trade him (if they don’t want to sign him long term). Trading Kamara right now makes absolutely zero sense

If he plans on holding out would probably be best to just trade him now

Yeah it’s a tough one. A player holding out never ends well for the team regardless of the outcome. But, if I’m Loomis I’m playing hard ball and if he wants to sit out then sit. I’ll still franchise you after the season is over. Point being there is just no reasoning to trade Kamara just to get an additional 2nd round pick.

Could be tough to pull off. If you franchise Kamara then you have to pay him around 13 million for one year. Meanwhile you are also paying 5th year deals on Latt and Ram. Loomis would have to work some magic.

Of course you would probably try to extend Ram and maybe Latt too if he plays well this year.

Yup. I have zero doubt as well that the Saints will get into the 2nd round.

Maybe able to get into the mid to late second with 2021 (2nd), 2020 (3rd), and 2021 (3rd). Hopefully we we would be getting a comp 3rd next year to make up for it.

While I do think the Saints are all in this year, I do NOT think they will trade a future first.

If CSP truly believes this is Brees's last year, he will want to hold on to that pick to at least give him the option of a 1st Round QB.

maybe you werent paying attention when he averaged less then 10 carries a game

i love kamara too, but the realistic facts are he will want too much money next year and we wound keep him any way so trade him now and you definitely get a 1st round pick and maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder to go along with that.

he is talented enough to warrant such value from other teams needing a running back yet for us we can do just fine without him

Agreed. If they franchise him i truly either expect a long term deal but probably a franchise then trade. I don’t expect them to have him play under a franchise. My point is we have a good amount of leverage.

Absolutely no way you get a first rounder for a running back with injury concerns on his contract year. Best you can get is a second and you probably actually looking more at a 3rd.

Trade down should be the only option.

This 2020 version of the Saints is deep. Are they that thirsty for another immediate impact player?

At some point the future needs to become of concern too. If they want a 2nd rd pick, they should do it the responsible way.
