From Jason LaConfora who says:

quote:

I concocted a mock draft with a highly-qualified NFL college scout, who has exhaustive first-hand knowledge with most of the top talent in this draft, and has seen pretty much all of the other names of note on tape. He's spent time with many of these kids personally, he's been on campus to talk to coaches and trainers and he's been inside draft meetings.

Which has my bull shite meter going off, but regardless he has the Saints selecting:

quote:

Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State: I ask about the Saints taking tackle Andrus Peat a year ago with the 13th overall pick. "Peat stinks, and this kid is an All-Pro guard if you don't play him at tackle."

Pretty sad to see the "Peat stinks" line as I don't think he stinks just yet and will judge what we have on him in the offseason and preseason, but if he is right and Peat is a bust, it's just inexcusable at how we wasted that pick at 13 on a project O-lineman, and then had to draft another lineman the next year to correct it.

Peat was the pick that ireland persuaded payton/mickey over most. if Peat isn't starting this year, what a horrible waste of a draft pick.

I'm not completely against drafting Conklin to play G and make the O line dominant.

The Peat line is dumb.

If Loomis/Payton pick anyone but a DT or LB, Rita should push to have the competency hearings reopened.

Peat had a rough start last season, but in the second half of the year I thought he looked very promising.

You do realize that 1) DT and LB are not the only positions of need ant 2) they draft BPA and not strictly positions of need.

So no, Rita should continue to munch carpet

I could get behind drafting Conklin. Day 1 starter and protecting Brees is a must. When he has time he's as lethal as they come. Address edge rusher or DT in round 2.

I think getting a better O-line would definitely help brees, but not nearly as much as getting him a competent defense.

A lot of people overlook how much having a good D will improve the offense.

ETA: as far as the peat line goes, guy definitely showed he can play in the nfl in his few moments to show it last year.....he definitely didn't show any flashes of being more than a starter to me, but he definitely will not "stink"

What a D-bag. I don't think Peat stinks. I thought he played pretty well last year. I didn't like the pick last year but I'm not going to knock his skillset because I didn't like the pick. I think he'll be a solid RT but I don't think you draft a RT at 13.

Peat was good at guard and right tackle once he eventually got conditioned tbh. He'll be the right tackle full time sometime into this season

So clearly hasn't talked to the Saints about it, and also says the tackle can play guard (which would make sense since we have two iffy starters at the moment).

Just trying to get more eyeballs with the phrasing.

I can definitely see us going anything but HB, TE, FB, C, K, or P with the first pick.

PFF had him rated as atrocious at guard. They had a decent RT rating for him though

Has LaConfora ever been correct on the Saints? Really though

Agree.

If the defense is even 20th ranked last year, the Saints are in the playoffs and maybe win the division.

I thought he played better at tackle. When Armstead got hurt he stepped in and was able to handle the position. He's more natural at tackle, doubt he's ever played guard before last year. He wasn't bad either way imo..wasn't carl nicks, but was good enough.
